Teaching Plan for Speaking and Writing Unit 5 Module 8

Step 1 Lead-in Teacher shows students pictures of some objects from Sanxingdui Ruins Museum. Then ask students whether they are interested in them. Step 2 Discussion Teacher asks students what they want to know about one of the objects from Sanxingdui Ruins Museum and tells students how to describe it. Then ask them to have a discussion about the name, date, size, appearance, material, use and what we can learn from the other two objects. Step 3 Speaking Suppose a great many visitors will arrive at Sanxingdui Ruins Museum. You work in the museum and your job is to describe one of the objects. Work in groups of four to do a “guide and tourists” activity. Step 4 Writing Students are required to write a composition about the mask from Sanxingdui Ruins Museum. Pay attention to what should be included as well as grammar, spelling and punctuation. Step 5 Assessment Ask students to do peer-assessment about their work and then choose one composition on the spot to have a discussion. Step 6 Summary and Homework In this class, not only have students known how to describe an object, but also they have a general idea of how people lived many years ago. Ask students to try to find out more information about Xiongjiazhong Ruins Museum and write one or more paragraphs about the objects students are interested in after class, appealing students to protect all the cultural relics.
