I. Analysis of the teaching material The topic of this unit is healthy life. The reading passage is to tell us in what way a young man will be addicted to smoking, the harmful effects of smoking and what method can we use to get rid of smoking. Perhaps quitting smoking has been a boring topic, the teacher might use activities and tasks to actively involve the students in the learning process

II. Analysis of the students Students are in Senior 2. They have already acquired a certain amount of words and expressions which lay the foundation for the understanding of the passage. However, there exists difference among the students. The teacher should take care of the whole class and induce everyone to join in. III. Learning Objectives

1.Knowledge and skills 1). Enable students to know the ways of becoming addicted to smoking and the

harmful effects of smoking. 2). Help students learn how to give advice to others. 3). Foster the students’ ability in reading. 2. Process and methods 1). To understand the whole text through reading, further thinking and

discussion. 2). Use a pair work activity to get students put what they learn into practice.

3. Emotion, attitude and value 1). To arouse students’ the awareness of the bad effects caused by smoking. 2). Encourage students to persuade their family or friends to quit smoking.

IV. Teaching important points 1). Get the students to figure out the structure of the passage.

After the free talk, the teacher will introduce two famous actors to them. From these two examples, the students will easily conclude the importance of health. Conclusion: These words described two pictures of life, one is healthy and active, the other is harmful due to smoking. Grandad wisely used a sharp contrast to make his letter persuasive. 5. Pair work: Role play

Task 3 Post reading Discussion：If you are smoking now, what will you do when a child asks you to get a light for cigarette? After the discussion, the teacher will show them a video about this discussion and draw a conclusion.

Conclusion: Actions speak louder than words. Almost everyone knows smoking bring us nothing but damage. For smokers it's time to take action to stop smoking. And for non-smokers, we should say No to cigarettes to lead a healthy life!

设计说明：读后任务设计主要是结合本文所学的知识，让学生探讨戒烟行动势在必行，尤其是那些吸烟多年的人应当用实际行动给青少年树立榜样。小组讨论不仅能提高学生的表达能力，也让学生在小组合作讨论中逐渐形成团队合作意识。
