I. Analysis of the teaching material and the students As we all know, Go for it has five books. This is the first book which is to attract students’ interest in learning English. This is the listening part taken from Section B of Unit 9.The topic of this unit is about man and ourselves. Students will learn how to talk about their preferences and give reasons as well. In Section B, from1a to 1d, students learn how to talk about their favorite subjects and give reasons through listening. They can learn how to use special questions to talk about their favorite subjects and give reasons. Also, it shows a schedule in this part, so students can also learn how to arrange their time properly. What are my students like? They are from Grade Seven. They are active and confident. They want to learn something new and show themselves. They have some abilities in listening，such as predicting and listening for some specific information. They have already learned some adjectives to describe people’s attitudes towards different things. And also they have known some names of days in a week. Most of them are teens from the countryside. About one third of them are left-behind children who always live with their grandparents. Therefore, it’s a little difficult for them to arrange their time properly to study or to relax. II. Purpose: To lead in the topic naturally and present the new words at the same time as well as to have students well prepared for listening practice. Step2 While-listening 1.

Listen for the first time and complete the chart. Purpose: To enable students to get the main idea of the listening material. 2.

Look at the schedule. Guide students to ask some questions, then listen again and circle the classes David talks about. Purpose: To enable students to listen for the specific information. And before this, getting familiar with the given information is very important. 3.

Listen for the third time and answer these questions: What is David’s favorite subject?

Why does he like it? When is the class? Purpose: To enable students to master how to talk about their favorite subjects through imitating the expressions appearing in the conversation. Step3 Post-listening 1.

Pair work

Talk about David’s favorite subject and make a summary. Purpose：To enable students to reorganize the sentences with their own words based on the listening material. And this can also help students get ready to talk about their own favorite subjects. 2.

Group work

Make a survey about your classmates’ favorite subjects and reasons in your group. Then let the group leader make a report. You can report like this: sb’s favorite subject is … because … It’s on …. So he/she likes …

Purpose: To enable students to talk about their own favorite subjects with the target language. Still, when working in groups, students can learn how to cooperate with each other more effectively.
