Anticipated Difficulties: 1. Analyze the English used in this Act. 2. Tell the differences between the Standard English and Nonstandard English: Professor Higgins’

and Colonel Pickering’s speeches vs. Eliza’s speeches. 3. Role Play

Teaching Methods: 1. Task-based Method 2. Skimming & Scanning (Fast Reading Skills) 3. Careful Reading

Teaching Aids: 1. Multimedia Aid 2. PPT

Teaching Procedures: Step 1. Listening & Scanning Purpose: To practice Ss’ listening and fast reading ability. 1. Ask Ss to listen to the tape of Act Two. 2. Scan the text and answer two questions about the basic information in the text Step 2. Fast reading Purpose: To get a brief understanding of Act Two. 1. Give Ss some time to go through the text, and complete a form about the background information of the text. Ask them try to find out the information as quickly as possible.

2. Ask Ss to read the text quickly and do some Multiple Choices exercises on the screen. Step 3. Careful reading Purpose: To get Ss to master some more details in the text. 1. Ask Ss to answer some questions about the main plot of Act Two. These questions are more detailed about the content of the text. 2. Try to correct Eliza’s poor English with mistaken words and broken grammar. 3. Ask Ss to try their best to remember the information of the play and retell the story by completing a shortened passage of the play. 4. Enjoy a video from the film My Fair Lady that is about Act Two -- Making the Bet. Homework 1. Ask Ss to go over Act Two and make preparations for acting it out in the next class. 2. Ask Ss to review some Useful Words and Expressions in Act Two. 3. Ask Ss to surf the Internet to find more information about My Fair Lady and Pygmalion.
