Teaching materials The foolish fox Page 1: Fox had a farm but he did not like farming.
Page 2:So he said to the sheep,“Farm my land for me, and you can keep some of the food.”
Page 3: So he said to some sheep, “Farm my land for me, and you can keep some of the food.”
Page 4: The sheep said,“Can we keep the top part of the food or the bottom part ?”“The bottom part,”said Fox.
Page 5: So the sheep put corn seed in the soil. Page 6: When the corn was high, the sheep cut it down. Page 7: Then they took the corn roots to Fox. Page 8: “ This is not food!” said Fox. Fox was cross. It had been a trick! Page 9: Fox said “Next year, you must keep the bottom part of the food.”
Page 10: So the sheep put turnip seeds in the soil. Page 11: When the turnip were big, the sheep dug them up. Page 12: They took the turnip tops to Fox. Page 13: “ This is not food!” said Fox. Fox was cross. It had been a trick. Page 14: So now, Fox farms his land himself. Teaching objectives
By the end of this lesson, students will be able to——

2. tell the story using simple past tense; 3. develop different opinions about the characters. 4. know some past participles. 1
Teaching focus
1. To understand the book and develop opinions about the characters. 2. To describe their characteristics using simple past tense. 3.To know some past participles. Predicted areas of difficulties
Students may have difficulties in understanding or reading some sentences with past participles in the book.
Teaching aids Multi-media (CAI); Cards Teaching Procedures Step 1: Pre-reading
1. Song time: The fox 2. Game time: watch and say Let’s take a look at the silhouettes. What animals are they? Have a guess! Monkey panda hen cow bird fox. 3. Talk time:
Q:What do you think of foxes?
Have Ss think of the words to describe the foxes. Ss: Clever. Cute. Great. Cunning. Cool. Beautiful…
2. Talk time: Simple past tense
(1)The story happened in the past.
Help Ss focus on the past participles “ say” and “said”, and simple past tense. (2)Present two pictures of the fox in the past. Have Ss focus on the word “slept”
and “ drank”. Tell them the two word is the past participles.
3. Fun time: play a game “I say you say”
Let’s play a game: I say you say. Review some past participles in three rounds. 2
Round 1: Teacher says “drink have do say”, Ss say “ drank had did said”
Round 2: Teacher says “ is take are dig” , Ss say “was took were dug”
Round 3: Teacher says “ put cut”, help Ss say “put cut”

What would happen when a fox meets sheep? Have a guess and talk about your opinions. (1) Read and answer
Q 1: Why there is nothing on the land? Page 1: Fox had a farm but he did not like farming.
What do the two farms mean? Can you guess? Q 2 : Look at the pictures and try to find out what happened. Q 3 : Who farmed the land? Sheep. Let’s read and find out what happened ! Q 4: When the fox proposed, did the sheep agree? Ss:Yes. Because they said: Can we keep the top part of the food or the bottom part? (2) Watch and learn: T presents a picture of a turnip, and explains to the Ss the top part of the turnip is leaves and the bottom part is the fruit. (3) Read and imitate: Have Ss imitate and read. Read in roles. 3

Q 1: What would sheep do? Learn the words “seed” and “corn”. Q 2: What would happen? Have Ss have a brainstorm. Then try to find the answer. Q 3: Which part did the sheep keep? They took the top part.
Q4: Which part did the fox get? Have Ss know about the word root. (2) Discuss and read Q 1: What did fox say? Was he happy? This is not food. Q 2: What does the word “cross” mean? It means angry, unhappy. Give Ss the tip: “当我们遇到新单词,不知道它的意思,可以尝试通过上下文理解哦”. Help Ss know the word “trick”

Have Ss guess what the word “himself” mean. 5. Brainstorm Q1: What do you think of the fox in this story? Present the title of the story “The foolish Fox”
Q 2: Who do you like? Why? Ss can have different opinions. Conclusion: No man is wise at all times.

2. Read more picture books about foxes in English.
