（朗读材料）I am John Martin, a good friend of Xiaoli. It has been six years since we last saw each other.This/it is the first time that I have visited his hometown, Xiamen, a lively city on the coast. Although I have seen quite a lot of China so far, this is one of the most attractive place I have been to.

I think everyone feels fortunate living by the seaside. However, some local people say it can be a nuisance in the summer because there are a lot of tourists around and sometimes they will bother you. It is pretty hot and wet in summer, but it can be quite cold in winter.

In such a modern city, the rent for the apartment is so high that not so many people can afford it. In the business district, a lot of high-rise buildings have been put up recently. When you approach the harbor, you are entering the western district where there are some really pretty parks. Gulangyu Island across the water is a gorgeous island with some really interesting architecture. You’d better park your car and walk around for a while. If you happen to be starving, you may go to a nice little fish restaurant for lunch. It will be fun to exchange your ideas with some friendly people here.

I believe you will fall in love with this fascinating city just like me.
