Commercial ads 1. Bright-Teeth fights bad breath! 2. You are proud of your cooking, so shouldn’t you buy the very freshest food?

OK, read them all together. Wonderful! Since we read the article once, I think you have a general idea of the passage. But if you want to get a better understanding of the article, you should read it several times. So please look at Part C1 on page 4. Do the true and false exercise.

Part C1: 

Advertisements are always meant to promote a product or service. 

PSAs are only found in newspapers and on TV. 

PSAs and commercial ads use some of the same methods. 

PSAs 1. Yes to life, no to drugs. 2. Knowledge changes life. 3. Project Hope—educating every child. 4. When you smoke cigarettes, you are slowly killing yourself.

T: We all know that different types of passages require different reading strategies, so read the reading strategy on page 3 and tell me what is its basic format. Pay attention to the letters in bold. Ss: It usually follows the basic format: introduction of the subject, examples and facts that develop or support the idea, conclusion.

Step Five: Critical thinking

T: Let’s move on to the group work. I’d like to divide you into 2 groups. Please discuss the positive or negative role advertising plays in our daily life. Heated discussion, please. Design a commercial ad: try to attract more students to the school canteen. 2.

Design a PSA about school life. (save water; raise money for the people in earthquake-stricken area) Either is OK. Another guessing game to help your designment become more creative.
