Unit 2 Welcome to the unit

Teaching Aims & Demands: 1. Help the students to get familiar with sports names and learn more about the six different sports events.

2. Learn to talk about the six pictuers and learn about the Olympics.

Teaching Important & Difficult Points: 1. How to help the students to have something to say about the six different sports events. 2. How to help the students to descibe the six pictures and answer the three questions. Teaching Methods:

Communication,Presentation, Pairwork,Groupwork,etc. Teaching Aids: Multi-media, the Blackboard. Teaching Procedures: Step 1

Lead-in Show the picture of our school sportsground,and get the students to find out what sports appeared in it. Encourage them to use their memory to tell what

sports appeared outside the picture. Check their answers.

Step 2

Presentation Get the students to look at the screen and show them more pictures of different sports and ask them to write the sports names.Check the answers.Then present more information about the six sports events so that the students will have more to say about the six pictures in the book later on. Step 3

Pictures Books open. Pairwork.Get the students to look at each of the six pictures and try to descibe what they can see in the pictures .Encourage them to say more about each sports event.

Step 4

Advantages of sports Groupwork. The students work in groups of four,discussing what benefits doing sports can bring us.

Check their answers on the sreen and then try to answer the three questions at the page bottom.

Step 5

A brief introduction of the Olympics Get the students to go on looking at the screen .Learn

about the history of the Olympics and some famous foreign and Chinese athletes and their achievements. Step 6

Homework 1.

Think of some disadvantages of doing sports and share with their classmates. 2. Preview the reading passage and get ready for the next period.
