教材分折：本课时第四模块第二单元，题材是学生喜闻乐见的The Olpmpic Games. 对此，学生充满了兴趣和好奇。学生通过学习课文能对此话题有更深入的了解。根据新课程标准：高中英语教学应该着重培养学生在人际交往中得体地使用英语的能力，用英语获取和处理信息的能力，用英语分析问题和解决问题的能力以及批判思维能力。为此，本课时设计以阅读文章为信息载体，通过输入、输出手段，使得学生感知教学内容，理解教学内容，并以教学内容展开听和说的训练，培养学生的综合语言能力。在整体阅读完后，将有一个问题对文章进行深层次挖掘，引导学生把情感教育融入课堂教学中，使学生明白要成功所应具备的品质。

学情分析

本次授课内容是学生们非常熟悉又非常喜欢的The Olmpic Games，通过展示图片和播放视频等方式，可以极大的调动学生的兴趣，促进师生间的互动，从而更加有效的展开教学。

Teaching aims（教学目标）: 1. To help the students learn more about the Olympic Games and get to know how to make a speech. 2. To strengthen the students’ reading ability by reading the project carefully. 3. To practice their skills of making a speech and arouse their activeness by making a speech. Teaching Difficulties and Importance（教学重点难点）:

How to help the students the spirit of the Olympic Games.

Watch a video about the Olympic Games to arouse students’ interest.

Step 3: Fast reading

Please read the project quickly and answer the questions. (students read aloud by themselves) Question: From four headings, what do you think the article will talk about? Answers: It talks about how a sport can enter the Olympics and reasons for some sports’ entering or being removed.

Step 4: Carefully reading

Read the article part by part and try to find the detailed information in each part. Part 1 1.What requirements must be met before a sport can be considered by the

IOC? ◆A sport must have its own international association.

◆A sport should be practised by men in at least 75 countries and on at least four continents or practised by women in at least 40 countries and on three continents ◆A current sport must be dropped.

Part 2 1.What sports have been removed from the Olympics? Why? Because these sports were judged less popular and they had to make way for new, more popular sports.

Part 3 1. What sports have been added in the Olympics only recently? And in which year? Tae kwon do, in 2000. 2. What other sports will probably be included? Why? Because they are now very popular and are played all over the world. Part 4 Which sport is still trying to get into the Olympics? Why hasn’t it been approved by the IOC?

Wushu, a Chinese Martial art. Because the IOC wants to maintain the balance of sports and there are many other sports in Martial arts. Step 5: Summary：

Do you think it is possible for wushu to become one of the sporting events in the Olympics? Why or why not? Related knowledge : Wushu is practised by people in 120 countries on 5 continents , and now it is very popular all around the world. Practising Wushu has many benefits. Firstly, it can help us build a strong body and live a healthy life. Secondly, we’re likely to be more confident. In addition, in case of emergency, we can defend ourselves.
