Warming up Ask the Ss to read the passage quickly to point out the sentences including the Past Participle as the Adverbial in the text. And try to translate the sentences in class. ◎Now once taught by me, she'd become an upper class lady. 译文：如今一旦让我教她，她就会变成一个上层阶级的淑女。

◎Once educated to speak properly, that girl ould pass herself off in three months as a duchess at an ambassador's garden party. 译文：要是一旦有人教她把英语说好了，她就可以在三个月内冒充公爵夫人出席大使举办的花园晚会了。

②Application (1)

Explanations: The past participle as the adverbial is a very important grammar, and it can indicate time, condition, reason, and way. We can add when/while/if or other conjunctions before the past participle in order to make the meaning more clearly. For example: Heated to a high temperature, water will change to vapour. If (it is) heated to a high temperature, water will change to vapour. (2)

Rewrite sentences: 1.

When they are seen from the hill, the buildings are pretty small. = Seen from the hill, the buildings are pretty small. 2.

As it is surrounded by water, it is very beautiful. = Surrounded by water, it is very beautiful. 3.

When they are dressed in uniform, these students are more handsome than usual. =Dressed in uniform, these students are more handsome than usual. ③Further study (1)
