Teaching process: Step 1 Warm-up

Revise different kinds of pets, such as mouse, monkey, dog, parrot, pig and so on. Show some pictures of different pets.

Play some listening practice.

Play a guessing game. Show a riddle about dogs.

Step2 Lead-in Group discussion Show a picture of goldfish. Guess what pets they are? (Goldfish) Encourage the students to talk about them in English. 1.What colours are goldfish? 2.What food do they eat? 3.Where do they live? 4.How much are goldfish? 5.Is a goldfish large or small? How big can it grow?

6.How can we look after goldfish?

Step3 Presentation Part A1, Page 99. Peter wants to know more about goldfish, so he searched the Internet for more. He listened to a talk about goldfish.

Give some listening tips:

A: Judge the information first. Encourage the students to guess. 1.Can you put a goldfish in the sun? 2.Can you pick them up with your hands? 3.Does it need special food? 4.Are they very expensive?...... Pay attention to the key words. Listen to the tape and do T/F questions. Listen again and correct the sentences if possible. Check the answers with the whole class. If the students have problems, listen again to the relevant information. Part A2, Page 99.

Give some listening tips.

Read the sentences and try to fill in the blanks in Part A2

What blanks can you fill in according to the information in PartA1? (2,3,8,9) Pay attention to the key words.

While listening, just write down the first 3 letters if the students have enough time to write down the whole words. Listen to the tape and help Peter finish the fact sheet about the goldfish. Share the answers with the class. Then read the fact sheet and try to remember it. Ask some questions about the goldfish. 1.Where can we put goldfish? 2.What do the goldfish eat? 3.How big can goldfish grow? 4.How can we look after them? Part A3, Page 100. Finish the dialogue between Peter and Amy. Check the answers. Make sure if the students can fill in the last blank. If necessary, listen to the relevant information. Read the dialogue. Part B, Page 100. Listen to the conversation and try to find out who has the pet dog/cat/fish? Listen again and try to catch the information about how Millie/Amy/Peter looks after the pets. Share the answers together. Read after the tape. Pair works. Prepare to make up a similar dialogue about their favourite pets.

Step4 Show time Design a poster for the group pet. Then show them and introduce to others.
