Step 1. Revision 1. check the answers to the exercises for self-directed learning 2. Practice : change the direct speech into the reported speech 3. Ask the Ss to sum up the rules we should pay attention to : changes in personal pronouns ,tenses, adverbials of time and place and some other cases. Step 2.

Lead-in T : Open your books to page 10. Ask one student : What did I say? S: You asked us to open the books to page 10. T: Besides imperative sentences, what other types of sentences

do we have in English?(statements, questions , interjectional sentences) Step 3. Introduction 1.

Statements: We use noun clauses introduced by that to report statements 2.

Questions: We use noun clauses introduced by whether/if to report yes/no questions. We use noun clauses introduced by wh-words to report wh-questions. We use ”whether…..or……”in alternative interrogations 3.

Imperative sentences : To report imperative sentences, we use

the structure: Reporting verb+ object + (not) + to - infinitive. Tell/ask/order/+ sb. + (not) + to do sth. 4.

Interjectional sentences : We can still use interjections “what”, “how”

to introduce the sentences, or use “that ”
