教材分析

Learning about language部分包括两个方面，这节课聚焦的是Discovering useful words and expressions. 这一部分共有四项练习：练习一是根据相同的后缀写出已给单词的同根词；练习二是将下划线的表达用文中的表达进行替换，必要时可以重写句子；练习三是根据所给段落，选择正确的单词填空；练习四是看图，用所给的词描述图片，将描述说给同伴听。

四个练习看似没有联系，但实际上从词的构成到语句再到段落再到篇章，有难度的梯度，也符合本单元Inventors and Inventions的主题。

学情分析

本课的授课对象是高二学生。学生的英语基础存在个体的差异，但整体上经过一边的高中英语学习，已经具备一定的学习词汇、表达的能力。但选修八相对其他几本书来说难度增加，加之“如何成为一个真正的发明家”这一话题对学生们来说比较陌生，因此如何熟悉并运用本单元词汇、表达需要具体的指导与练习。

教学目标

At the end of the class, the students will be able to 1)

memorize new words; 2)

categorize the words and expressions to describe how to be an inventor with the help of the word web; 3)

use the words and expressions to translate sentences, understand them in the context and write a short speech to introduce the author’s experience.

教学过程

Step 1: Word puzzle
