Step1. Lead-in and presentation 1.

Introduce the concept of the simple past tense 1) We use the simple past tense to talk about things in the past. E.g. (1) A month ago, Millie and Amy went to Sunshine Park. (2) Last Sunday, they went to the park again. 2.

Ask students to find more verbs in simple past form in the text, then discuss in groups and try to find out the rules of the Verbs in simple past form (1)We form the simple past tense by adding ‘-ed’ to regular verbs. (2)We form the simple past tense of irregular verbs differently. We do not add ‘-ed’.

Step2. Presentation 1.

Ask students to pay attention to the adverbials of time: yesterday, yesterday (morning, afternoon, evening…), the day before yesterday, last night (week, month, year…),two days ago, a week ago，in 1990, in 1998…
