Teaching background：

In the past years our school has been carrying out the teaching reform, which advocates a more effective teaching strategy, that is, return the time to students, teach them methods, and improve the study ability of the students. The analysis of the lesson: The lesson is centered on the grammar of this unit, and the grammar structure of this unit is revising the attributive, among which the attributive clause is one of the most important parts. So this class is mainly focused on what the students usually feel confused about, that is, the difference between relative pronouns and relative adverbs, and how to choose prepositions before relative pronouns. The analysis of the students:

The students have learned the attributive before, but they can’t master the attributive clause very well. And in the last lesson we have reviewed the relative pronouns, which they are now very good at. But they often mix up relative pronouns and relative adverbs. Besides, many students don’t how to choose prepositions before relative pronouns correctly. Teaching aims：

According to the new standard curriculum and the syllabus,and after studying the teaching material, the teaching objectives for this period are the following: 1.

Knowledge aims：

Enable the students to grasp the usage of relative adverbs and prep. + whom /which.

2.

Ability aims：

(1) Enable the students to use relative adverbs and tell the difference between relative pronouns and relative adverbs.

(2) Know how to choose the prepositions before whom or which. (3) Improve the language expression ability of students. (4) Help students form the habit of thinking 3.

Emotional aims：

(1) Develop the students’ sense of group-cooperation

(2) Make the students realize that everybody can have his own ideas towards different things.

Teaching important points：

Guide the students to tell the difference between

relative pronouns and relative adverbs, and know how to choose prepositions before relative pronouns. Teaching difficult points：

Get the students to discover the rules of choosing prepositions before whom /which. Teaching methods：

Task 1 a guessing game 1. Use relative pronouns that we have learned in last unit to describe the head teacher and the Chinese teacher and let the students guess who they are.

The head teacher: ⑴He is a responsible teacher who spends most of his time with you. ⑵The only thing that he cares about is your study. ⑶And he is also a father whose daughter is in our class. The Chinese teacher: ⑴He is our teacher whose voice is very loud. ⑵The sport which he likes most is

swimming. ⑶Besides, he is a good partner whom I like to work with. Tasks 2 combine into one sentence

Use relative adverbs to describe some information of myself, let the students combine some small parts into one sentence and then let the students guess my age. ⑴In the year when I was eighteen, I was admitted to a key university. ⑵I graduated from the university where I had studied for four years. ⑶Eight years ago the reason why I chose to be a teacher is that I love teaching. The purpose of the design:

1. Review

relative pronouns that we have learned.

2. Arouse students’ interest.

3. Lead them to the usage of relative adverbs.

Step 2 Grammar learning Task 1 the usage of relative adverbs 1. Praise students and present the sentence “That’s the reason why I am happy.”

2. Show a picture of Wang Yuan and ask the students if they like him. Let the - 2 -

students share their opinions and lead to sentence “That’s the reason why you like/dislike him.”

3. Ask students to think about the usage of when, where and why, and fill the table.

The purpose of the design:

1. Know the usage of relative adverbs. 2. Make the students to express their opinions, cultivating the language expression ability and thinking ability of students.

Task 2 the difference between relative pronouns and relative adverbs 1. Ask students to finish the exercise of this part on worksheet.

2. Discuss in groups about difference between relative pronouns and relative adverbs according to the exercise above, and then draw a conclusion. The purpose of the design:

1. Make the students to know the difference between relative pronouns and relative adverbs, and know how to use them correctly.

2. Help students form the habit of thinking and cooperating. Task 3 the rules of choosing prepositions

1. Ask students to combine two sentences into one attributive clause using when, where or why and then try to combine the two sentences in a different way using prep.+ which/whom. ⑴I will never forget the day. On the day we have a good time. ⑵I will never forget the year. In the year I graduated . 2. Discuss in group about the rules of choosing prepositions according to the task on the worksheet. The purpose of the design:

1.Guide the students find out the difference in choosing the preposition and conclude the rules by themselves.

2. Improve the thinking ability of students Step 3 Consolidation

Ask students to describe their classmates using the Attributive Clauses, and guess who he/she is. The purpose of the design:

1. Improve students’ language expression ability

2. Evaluate how well the students grasp what they have learned. Step 4 Homework
