------Reading: California 【Analysis of teaching material】

This is a reading class. The teaching material comes from Book8 Unit 1 Reading. The text, with several headings, focuses on the history of settlement of California, therefore, it is not so difficult for students to figure out the structure. But the text is organized in such a detailed way that the students may find it hard to grasp useful messages and understand the specific information. 【Analysis of the students】

Although the students are in Senior Grade 2, they still have a poor foundation in English. Being unfamiliar with the background, the students may lack of motivation and interest in learning it. So it’s important to motivate and encourage them to learn the text. 【Teaching Aims】

Knowledge aims Let students get the basic knowledge about the history of settlement of California as well as its culture.

Ability aims 1. Enable students to learn different reading skills, especially the reading
