Teaching aims：

Knowledge aims: Help students to revise the usage of the non-infinitive verbs. Ability aims: 1. Enable the students to know clearly the definition and usage of non-infinitive verbs. 2. Improve the students’ abilities to make use of non-infinitive verbs in blank-filling exercise and practical writing. Moral aims: 1. Help students to have a better understanding of the usage of non-infinitive verbs. 2. Help students to arouse their interest by connecting their tasks with their real life. 3. Enable students to participate in class activities automatically.

Teaching procedures

Step 1: Lead-in

Play the song “Rhythm of the Falling Rain ” and fill in the blanks, then ask students to find out something in common among the missing words. (the missing words: falling, telling, looking ) (Develop students’ ability of discovery) Step 2: Brief Explanation

Ask students to finish three sentences and sum up the basic meanings of the three forms of non-infinitive verbs according to their answers.

Students are to remind themselves of the grammar functions of non-infinitive verbs, complete some sentences by blank filling and distinguish what elements they are in sentences. 3.

Comparison exercise two: (Pair work)

Ask students to complete the sentences and discuss with their partners why they choose the answers. Then sum up the steps to finish such kind of exercise. Step 4: Exercise for improvement 1. Students are to discuss with their group mates and translate four sentences with the non-infinitive verbs.
