When I was a ten-year-old girl, I was once asked to deliver a speech titled “A Real Test in My Life” to talk before the whole class! Just imagine how __1__(terrible)shy I was the moment I thought of that with so many eyes fixed upon me. I had no other __2__(choose), though. First I was to draft the speech and that was just a piece of cake for me, because I was a good writer—something to pride myself in. But the hard part __3__(lie) in my oral presentation: to read from __4__ paper was not allowed;I had to give the speech __5__ my memory and in front of such a big audience! A real trial began when I stood on the platform with my legs __6__(tremble)and my mind blank. How much time had passed by, I didn't know. My listeners were still waiting, patiently and without any signs of rushing me. Gradually I found __7__ back, giving out my speech with difficulty. Finally I finished. After __8__ seemed to be a hundred years, I found my audience applauding. I made it! From then on, my fear of talking before an audience disappeared. Actually with my confidence building up, I now turn out to be a great speaker. Looking back, I know the __9__(great)difficulty on our way to success is our fear;overcome it, __10__ we will be able to achieve our goals. 答案:
1.terribly 2.choice 3.lay 4.the 5.from 6.trembling 7.myself 8.what 9.greatest 10.and Ⅴ.阅读理解
I learnt about the Pygmalion Effect (皮格马利翁效应) when I was 7 years old at Riverdale School in Palmerston North and I copied Melissa Crawford's
answers in a spelling test. Before that I was average at school but after that, because Melissa Crawford was smart, and I got all the right answers, I got put in all the smart kids groups. From then I did really well at school because it was believed by the teachers that I would and I also got grouped with the smart kids. This experience that occurred at my primary school shows just how important the Pygmalion Effect is in terms of being around mentors (导师) that expect that you're going to do well and also being around people who are smart. The Pygmalion Effect is one principle you want to use if you want to make money fast. Have mentors that expect you will make money fast and as an extra boost hang around, copy and learn from other people who are also making money fast. Yesterday this site had over 5,000 unique visitors and the traffic to it is increasing all the time. A year ago I contacted a group of people who got lots of traffic in their sites and I learnt from them. Truthfully, I don't know if they expected me to start getting decent traffic to websites but I imagined they did so they might as well have. So there you have it, the Pygmalion Effect. P. S. My grammar and spelling are not that great nowadays but that's actually completely irrelevant (不相关的) when it comes to getting lots of visitors to your site. 1.When did the author learn about the Pygmalion Effect? A.Before he took the spelling test. B.After he cheated in the spelling test. C.When he did badly in exams. D.After he finished primary school. 2.The author got grouped with the smart kids because ________. A.he was an average pupil at school B.he did better than expected C.Melissa Crawford was smart
D.he did better than all the others at school 3.What does the underlined word “traffic” mean in the third paragraph? A.Amount of vehicles. B.Amount of travellers. C.Amount of visits. D.Amount of goods. 4.From the passage we can infer that ________. A.the author was busy meeting visitors every day B.there was lots of traffic in his city C.the author opened a website himself D.the author's grammar was poor at school 答案与解析:

Muzak The next time you go into a bank, a store, or a supermarket, stop and listen. What do you hear? __1__ It's similar to the music you listen to, but it's not exactly the same. That's because this music was especially designed to relax you, or to give you extra energy. Sometimes you don't
even realize the music is playing, but you react to the music anyway. Quiet background music used to be called “elevator(电梯) music”
because we often heard it in elevators. But lately we hear it in more and more places, and it has a new name “Muzak”. About one-third of the people in America listen to “Muzak” every day. The music plays for 15 minutes at a time, with short pauses in between. It is always more lively between ten and eleven in the morning, and between three and four in the afternoon, when people are more tired. __2__ If you listen to Muzak carefully, you will probably recognize the names of many of the songs. Some musicians or songwriters don't want their songs to be used as Muzak, but others are happy when their songs are chosen. Why? __3__ Music is often played in public places because it is designed to make people feel less lonely when they are in an airport or a hotel. It has been proven that Muzak does what it is designed to do. Tired office workers suddenly have more energy when they hear the pleasant sound of Muzak in the background. __4__ Supermarket shoppers buy 38 percent more groceries. __5__ They say it's boring to hear the same songs all the time. But other people enjoy hearing Muzak in public places. They say it helps them relax and feel calm. One way or another, Muzak affects everyone. Some farmers even say their cows give more milk when they hear Muzak! A.Some people don't like Muzak. B.The music gives them extra energy. C.Music is playing in the background. D.Factory workers produce 13 percent more. E.Muzak tends to help people understand music better. F.They get as much as $4 million a year if their songs are used. G.Muzak is played in most of the big supermarkets in the world. 答案:
