I. Teaching aims and learning objectives 1. To improve the students’ abilities of four skills.

To help the students know about how to protect themselves when there is a fire.

3.

To encourage the students to help others in need if possible.

To help the students grasp the important language points in this period. II. Teaching contents 1.

New words and phrases: brave; save; smoke; badly; hurt; could; pour; protect; rush; wet;

blanket; fireman/ firemen; burn; moment; nod; careful; save…from; next door; put out;

in hospital.

1) He was brave enough to save his neighbour from a fire.

Her left leg was badly hurt and she couldn’t get out.

Later some firemen came and put out the fire.

III. Focus of the lesson and predicted area of difficulty

1. To complete doing the exercises and develop writing skills. 2. To talk about how to protect themselves when there is a fire. IV. Teaching procedures Step 1: Warming up 1. Have the students guess what colour I like best. And then say: Yes, I like red best, red is the colour of fire and it can make me feel warm in winter. And I will ask them to think it over, and answer my question:what can we use fire for?

2. Ask some students to say something about the use of fire.

Step 2: Lead in --Play a chant

1.

Tell the students fire is important but is also dangerous if we are not careful with it. If there is a fire ,we should get out as quickly as we can. And now let's have a chant.

2. Have the students read the words and clap their hands at the same time.

3. Lead in Lin Tao , a brave young man , saved his neighbour from fire.

Step 3 : Revision

1. Have the students listen to the passage and read it following the tape.

2. Retell the story one by one in groups.

Step 4: Presentation

Learn more details of the story 一．Before the fire:

1. Ask the three questions :

When did the story happen ?

Where was Lin Tao?

What did he hear?

2.Learn some important language point by answering the questions.

Eg.

3. Have the students finish the exercises and check the answers together.

二．During the fire

1. Ask the following questions :

Who did he find ? How was she? How did Lin Tao save Mrs Sun from fire? Who put out the fire later that day? 2.Teach and explain the following points.

1. Have the students think it over and make a dialogue.

Have the students have a discussion:

If there is a fire, what should we do or not do to save ourselves? And then ask some of them to talk about it.

Step6: Playing a game

Play a game: Choose the letter and then tell right or wrong: 1: Tell them the rules

Have them play the game and tell them how to protect themselves.

Step7 : Watching a video

Have them watch a video to learn more about how to protect themselves. Step8: Writing 1.

Tell the Ss everyone should be careful with fire. And tell them to write a passage about how to protect themselves when there is a fire.

The teacher offer some useful tips for the Ss The students will do this part in groups.

2. Have some groups read their passages.

Step9: conclusion

Tell the students that we should help each other. Sometimes, helping others to helping 三．After the fire
