Analysis of the Unit: This unit helps the students review the past tense. Comparing to the present tense, the students can easily understand and use the past tense.

Teaching process: Step 1

Warm-up 1.

The teacher greets the class and let them respond. 2.

Let students listen and sing a song together. 3.

Practice oral English by asking questions.

Step 2

Review 1.

Let the students see some pictures and describe with verbs. 2.

Let students read the verb phrases together. 3.

Review the past tense of the verbs.

Step 3 Presentation 1.

The teacher invites a student to describe a picture, and then takes a cat away, and then lets students to describe again. 2.

Read the sentences together. 3.

The teacher teaches the sentence pattern “There weren’t many buses many years ago.”

Practice the sentence by groups. 4.

Let students to make new sentences. 5.

Teach the new words: still, programme, lady, life, different, ago, interviewer, enough . 6.

Read the words together. 7.

Practice the sentences in pairs. 8.

Invite some pairs to perform in class.

Step 4 Presentation 1.

Listen to the text and let the students answer the question. What are they talking about? 2.

Listen to the text again and answer more questions. How was the life in China many years ago? How is the life in China now? 3.

Invite students to check the answers. 4.

Let them read and find out the past tense.

Step 5 Practice

1.

Let students write out the present tense of the verbs in the text. 2.

Recite the words together.
