Unit 6 An interesting country 

Teaching Goals: After learning the 1st period of Unit 6 Story time, SS will be able to 1. Understand the structure

I’ll do sth and say with it. 2. Understand the following words and phrases: learn about... find out about... read about... kangaroo, koala, Australian, Sydney, country.

3. Understand the text and know ways of finding out about Australia and interesting things in Australia.

4. Introduce Australia to other people with what they learn.

5. Have a global vision and know some culture tips of Australia. 6. Solve problems by communication. 

Teaching Key Points

1. Structure: use I’ll...to express the future things you will do. 2. Interesting things in Australia 3. Culture about Australia. 

Teaching Difficult Points 1. The pronunciation of the word Sydney.

2. Culture about Australia 

Teaching Aids: PPT, computer, projectors, toy koalas, toy kangaroos. 

Teaching Process: 1. Warm-up Talk Ask the following questions; “First, let me get to know some of you.”

What’s your English name? Nice to meet you! 2. Brain Storm. Ask students: If you have a lot of money, what will you do ?

Ss answer with: I’ll... Have students to guess what I will do? Teacher: I’ll go to different countries for travelling.

Follow-up question for SS: Do you like travelling to different countries. 3. Guess Game Have students to guess the name of a country according to pictures and sentences they see. (UK, Australia) Explain some culture tips about those two countries. (1)The UK: National flag, the Tower Bridge. (2)Australia: location on the world map, National flag, when to get independence, the Queen is now the nominal head 4. Text: introduction part.

Have students to listen to the text and answer: Why are they talking about Australia? Students read this part sentence by sentence. Guide them to read in the right way. 5. Text: Part 1, ways of find out about Australia

Ask ss: what do you know about Australia?

What will you do if you want to know about Australia?

Have students to answer with the structure: I’ll... Have students to watch the video and tell me what Mike and his friends do for finding out about Australia.

Have students talk about what they will do in paragraph. 7. Text: Part2. interesting things in Australia. Have students to read part two and find out about what Liu Tao finds on the Internet. And ask how about those things.

Have students answer why the title says: An interesting country.

8. Text Reading Have students to read the text following the audio and then read by themselves.

Finish the mind map. 9. Task:

A task for students: If you want to go to Australia, but you don’t know anything about Australia. You will talk to your classmate who is from Australia. You two will have a dialogue.

10. Further question before ending of the lesson.
