I. Teaching Aims

1. Ability Objectives 1.To develop Ss’

ability to adopt appropriate and effective reading skills and strategies, such as skimming, scanning, guessing and concluding.

2.To develop Ss’ ability of describing a city. 2. Emotional Objectives

To arouse Ss’love for their hometown and experience the pleasure of cooperation. 3. Strategy Objectives To encourage Ss to find answers and solve the problems by themselves, and cultivate their strategies to cooperate and communicate with others. II. Important Points

1.To enable Ss to catch the main idea of the passage and some detail information about Xiamen. 2.To enable Ss to master some useful reading skills and strategies. 3.To help the Ss use the expressions in the passage to describe their own hometown. III. Difficult Points 1. To develop the Ss’ reading skills such as skimming, scanning, and guessing the meanings of the new words.

V. Teaching Process Step I

Greetings

T greets the whole class as usual. Step II

Lead-in (1)

T shows the Ss some pictures to guess the name of each city. (2)

Ss have a brain-storm together.

Step III Skimming and Scanning

Finish some exercises about some detailed information in the passage.

(1)Ss look through the passage to find out which aspects are included in this passage.

(2)Ss do some True/False exercises.

(3)Ss find out things the writer describes about Xiamen in the passage, then fill in the form.

(4) Ss do a rational filling Step IV Post-reading

1.Ss work in groups and discuss the characteristics of Pengshan.

2.Emphasize the importance of home to everyone with showing the song Take Me Home, Country Road.

Step V Summary and Homework Assignment Ss write a letter to a foreigner to introduce their hometown-----Pengshan.
