Step 1 Lead-in

T: Good morning, class! Today we are going to learn Unit 7 ——

Abilities, Welcome to the unit. Now let’s look at this picture! What kind of people can you see? S: Superheroes! T: Yes! Now picture1, who is he?

S: Spiderman!

T: Good! Pitcture2? S: Captain America! T: Pitcture3? S: The Ironman! T: Yes! Pitcture4? S: Superman! T: The last one? S: Hulk! T: Yes! Then how do they look? S: They look strong/ cool/ brave ... 【设计意图：以学生熟悉的超级英雄引入话题，引起学生兴趣,导入本课话题】

T: Yes! They don’t only look cool! They can also do something cool because they have some special abilities. Now let’s learn more about their special abilities! Watch a video and answer: Which superhero is this video about? (Play the video)

T: Now which superhero is in this video? S: Superman! T: What does he do in this video? S: He saves/helps a girl. T: Does he look cool? S: Yes! T: Why can he save the girl? S: He has special abilities! T: Look at this picture, what can Superman do? S: He can fly!

T: Good! “can do sth.” also means “be able to do sth.”! So “He can fly”, we can also say...? S: He is able to fly.

T: Yes! And it also means “He has the ability to fly”. Let’s read them! Loud and together! (write down can do sth. = be able to do sth.= have the ability to do sth. on the blackboard) 【设计意图：通过图片教学，引出can do sth. = be able to do sth.= have the ability to do sth.】

T: So is that a special ability? S: Yes! T: And in the video, he has another special ability! Look at the picture, what can he do? S: He can carry heavy things! T: Can you say it in two more ways? S1: He is able to carry heavy things. S2: He has the ability to carry heavy things. T: Can people believe it? Do you think it is real? T: No! They don’t! S: What does believe mean? T: 相信！

S: Good! Believe it or not! He does it! Now let’s learn about some more superheroes and their special abilities! T: Picture1, who is he? What can he do? S1: Spiderman! He can climb the wall! T: Can you say it in another two ways? S: He is able to climb the wall./ He has the ability to climb the wall! T: Picture2? ...... (show the pictures of different superheroes and ask the students to describe their special abilities, using “can do sth. = be able to do sth.= have the ability to do sth.”) 【设计意图：通过更多的英雄人物及超能力图片，鼓励学生反复操练can do sth. = be able to do sth.= have the ability to do sth.的三种句型，同时为后面听力做准备】

T: Now Let’s play a game! Listen to four radios about the superheroes and their special abilities, if you know their names, just stand up and speak up! Let’s see who is the fastest! (play the radio one by one)

No.1: I usually walk on the road, but when someone is in danger, I will fly to help him! And I can carry heavy things like a car or a plane! No.2 I can help people too. And I can climb up tall buildings and get into a flat through the window.

Step 2 pair work T: These superheroes can do a lot of cool things, they have special abilities. Which one do you want to be? Why? Work in pairs and talk about your favourite Super Hero and his ability, you can do it like this. A: Which Superhero do you want to be? B: I want to be ... A: What can he do?/What is he able to do?/What ability does he have? B: He can.../ is able to.../ has the ability to...And he often...What about you? A: I want to be ... because he ... B:

That’s cool!

Step 3. Presentation

T: OK! Everyone wants to be a superhero! Eddie also wants to be one of them! He thinks he has a special ability, and he wants to show it to Hobo! Now watch the video and answer the questions! (play the video)

Q1. What does Eddie want to be?

Q2. What does Eddie think he can do? Q3. Can Eddie really do it? (ask the students to answer the questions) T: Read the dialogue in pairs and try to recite each sentence. T: Work in pairs. Step 4. Further Thinking T: So is Eddie a superdog? S: No!

T: Does he have a special ability? S: No. T: Then how about us? Can we fly? Do we have special abilities?

S: No！

T: Then can we be a Superhero? Let’s think about this question! Q: If someone has some special abilities, can we say he is a Superhero? Look at the picture! Is Thanos a Superhero? S: No! T: Why? S: He is bad/ a bad man/ He wants to kill people/... T: Then what bout Superman? Is he a Superhero? S: Yes! T: Why? S: Because he always helps people/ he is a good man! T: So how to be a Superhero? S: We should help others! T: Yes! We may not have special abilities, but we can still help others with our own abilities! Even if we are not super, we can still be heroes! 【设计意图：由超人过渡到普通人，由超能力过渡到帮助他人，探讨普通人能否运用自己的能力帮助他人，导入下一话题：如何帮助他人】

Part A Step 1 lead-in T: Now let’s see how we can help others! Watch a video about a young man, and answer the questions. (play the video) 1.

Does he have any special abilities? (No.) 2.

What does the young man do in the video? (He helps others.) T: Then let’s look at these pictures! What does the young man do to help others? S1: He helps water the flowers.

S2: He helps a vender (商贩) push the trolly (手推车). (协助学生表达）

S3: He gives food to a street dog. T: Yes! Even it is a dog, he helps it! Do you know even? S: 甚至！

T: Good. Next one? S3: He gives money to a poor girl! T: Yes! Why? What does the girl want to do? S: She wants to go to school!

T: Yes! Then she can use the money to pay for her education!

Do you want to raise money for her? S: Yes! T: It’s so kind of you! Read after me: pay for...raise money for... T: Next... S4: He gives a seat to a woman on the bus! S5: He buys bananas for an old woman. T: Yes! He does a lot of good things to help others. He is so kind! As a student, how can we help others? We can join...? Step 2 matches

T: Yes! Now Daniel and his classmates are also members of the Helping Hands Club. They are talking about what they can do in the club. Match these pictures with the descriptions! (ask the students to check the answers and read them aloud)

Part B Step 3 Listen and answer

T: Now Daniel and his classmates are talking about how to help others. Listen to their conversation and answer the questions.

Step 5 group work T: Now let’s try to help the old people, work in groups of six and think about different ways to help them! Dear teachers and classmates: We want to help the old people!

Step 6 Further Thinking

T: Now think about this question! What can you get if you help others? Let’s watch the video about the young man again and find out what happens to him next? (play the video and ask the students to complete the task)
