Unit 4 My animal sign

Grade 6, beginning with Grade 3. Teaching Aims:

1.By using courseware, teaching tools, Students can listen, read, say and write the six words: were, be born ,mouse, dragon and snake.

2.Through making sentences, asking and answering practice, students can understand and use the patterns “When were you born? I was born in …” and the “My animal sign is …”

3.Through listening , reading, role play, making dialogues students can listen, read and act out the dialogues even to recite the context, and learn how to treat the natures and enhance interests in learning English and enthusiasm.

Key Points:

1.Learn to use the pattern:“When were you born? I was born in …”and the “My animal sign is …”

2. Learn to use the dialogue in part“listen and say”and try to write the same composition according to the teachers.

Difficulties

1.The pronunciation of the word “born” .

2.To read the context loudly and use the pattern “When were you born? I was born in…”“My animal sign is …” in reality.

Teaching Procedures

Step1. Warming-up

1.Greetings

T: Hello boys and girls. How are you today?

Ss: Hello Ms Wang . I’m OK. And you?

T: I’m OK, too.

2.Free talk

T: Today, I’ll introduce a new friend, Are you happy? OK, Look! Our new friend is Linda. This is Linda. Listen carefully, What is she doing? Now , Let’s listen.

(The short passage):

Hello, everyone! I’m Linda. I’m from Australia. I’m visiting a paper cutting show. Chinese paper cutting art (中国剪纸艺术) is great. People can cut out many pictures from paper, There are 12 animals in front of us.such as mouse, ox,tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse,goat, monkey, rooster, dog and pig. They’re animal signs(生肖). In China, everyone has an animal sign . I was born in 2007.My animal sign is Dog. What about you? 4.T: When was Linda born? Was 是am, is 的过去式;

Born means 出生。When was Linda born? What’s meaning? Who knows?

Ss: Linda 是什么时候出生的?

T: now, who can answer this Q?

Ss: He was born in 2007.

T: Right. Very good. Now ,think over What’s Linda’s animal sign? animal sign is meaning 生肖,属相。who can answer this Q?

Ss: Dog.

5.Lead to the title.

T:Today let’s study: Unit3 My animal sign. Read after me. [Purpose: First, shorten the distance between T and Ss, let Ss feel take it easy. Second, it’s useful for next step.]

Step2. Presentation and drills

1、Set real situation . Present new pattern and new phrases. T: I have some animal signs for you. Can you say What’s the animal sign?

(1)Study new words snake A snake is long and thin. It has no legs or feet ,but can move very fast on its stomach. I’m very scared. Are you scared? Brave boy! (勇敢的男孩们!) 操练单词snake one by one。Show me your finger ,Write this word on your desk.

(2)mouse 老鼠。The mouse very likes eating rice.操练mouse。Write this word in the air with your finger.

(3)dragon .The dragon is deeply rooted in Chinese culture so we Chinese often claimed to be descendants of the dragon.龙深深地值根于中国文化因此我们中国人常自称为龙的传人。Give me your hand. 操练dragon。Write this word on your exercise book three times.

T: Do you know “What’s my animal sign?” Guessing. Ss: ….

T: Right. My animal sign is Dragon.

What’s your animal sign?

S1:My animal sign is …

S2:My animal sign is …

T: Good. Stop here. My animal sign is Dragon.

I was born in 1988. When were you born? Means 你是什么时候出生的?

2.Teacher asks one student:

T: When were you born?

S1:I was born in 2004.

T: What’s your animal sign?

S1: My animal sign is Monkey.

T: Wow! A clever monkey.

(Teacher uses this way to ask students practice as many times

as possible.)

3.I have a turntable. There are so many animals on it. When arrow (箭头) stop ,you should finish the task. OK? Ss: OK!

Step3(Practice)

1.Listen to the tape and try to answer the questions.

2.Listen to the tape again and fill in the blanks in groups. animal signs.

3.Read after me.

4.Read by yourselves and find difficulty word.

5.Retell the text.

Step5. Consolidation

B:My animal sign is ….

[Purpose: The step from input to output. Let Ss use the new

knowledge to talk each other.]

Step6. Writing a composition

My animal sign

I’m your English teacher. I’m 31 years old . I was born in 1988. My animal sign is Dragon. That’s the Dog year. I also like the wonderful paper cutting pictures. What about you?

Step5. Sum up

1.You all did a good job, this time, Can you speak loudly what have you learned ?

[Purpose: First, let Ss know what we have learnt. Second, lead in emotion education.]

Step6. Homework

Ask your classmates and talk about their animal signs each other.
