Unit 2 Cloning

Using language: Listening & Speaking Designed by Li Jinju from No.4 Middle School Analysis of material: This lesson is selected from Boo8 Unit2 Using language. It is the fifth period--Listening &Speaking. The aim of the Listening is for students to examine the issue of whether experimenting with animals is cruel or not. Since it is a moral issue and one which many people feel very strongly about, after the input of listening, student can express their own ideas about cloning to achieve the output process. In a word, this part is intended to practice students’

integrated skills of listening and speaking.

Analysis of students: The students are in Senior 2, who are interested in many things especially in modern science and pleased to wok together to explore in learning English. Besides, they also have had some listening and speaking skills. But they are still have some problems in catching detailed information in listening. Besides, for lack of enough words and expressions, they sometimes can’t express their ideas freely.

Teaching aims: 1.

Language ability: Catch different ideas on whether experimenting with animals is cruel or not by listening and express own ideas about it by speaking. 2.

Culture awareness: Have a right attitude towards cloning. 3.

Thinking quality: Learn to have own idea and judgement about cloning on animals. 4.

Learning ability: Practice listening and speaking ability by cooperating with others to do different activities. Teaching key points and special difficulties: 1.

Grasp the detailed ideas of Xiao Qing and Rachel in listening material. 2.

Express ideas about whether cloning is cruel by using functional items of acceptance and refusal, praise and encouragement.

Teaching methods:

Audio-visual Teaching method, Task-based Teaching method, Communicative Teaching method. Teaching aids:

Since there is enough input about cloning, students didn’t have too much problems in catching the main idea and detailed information in listening part. But students are poor at oral English, so there are still many mistakes in their oral presentation, which requires more practice later.
