Teaching aims: 1. To know the icons about places and traffic 2. To grasp the use of directions 3. To talk about trips and means of transportation

Teaching procedures: Step 1 Lead-in

1. Introduce the arrivals of visiting teachers and tell students that they need to help visiting teachers find the way in our school and in our city 2. Ask students to have a free talk: do you know how to find your way?

Step 2 Learning

1. Show students the icons of directions and learn them in class 2. show students arrows and ask students to give the directions to help a visiting teacher to go to our school

routes of visiting teachers in our school

Step 3 Practice

1.

(The students in Sunshine Middle School are planning a class trip.)

Ask students to complete Part A after they read the map and instructions. 2. Invite one student to point out Sunshine Middle school, Sunshine Zoo, Sunny Garden, Lake Park and Sunshine Park. 3. Ask students to find out Sunshine Bookshop and Sunshine Cinema on the map according to the instruction.

Step 4 Activity Task One: the introduction of our school’s neighborhood Show students a map about our school’s neighborhood and ask them to introduce the places around to visiting teachers

Step 5 Learning 1. listen to the dialogue and ask students some questions:

What are they talking about?

2.listen to the tape again and answer questions: Where? How far? How?

Step 6 Activity 1. Task Two ( Pair work)

one student is the tour guide and the other student is the visiting teacher. Try to make a dialogue about the trips you will have. 2.Task Three ( group work)

Four students in one group and try to give advice to visiting teachers about their trip in Nanjing.

Step 7 Homework

1.Finish exercises after class. 2.Recite the dialogue on page 43.
