Comic strips & Welcome to the unit

Teaching objectives: By the end of the class, students are expected to * know more about some countries and capitals. * know more about some places of interest in the world. * talk about where you would like to live. Teaching focus: 1. Help students to know about some countries and capitals. 2. Guide students to talk about where they would like to live. Teaching difficulties: Enable students to talk about the places of interest all over the world. Teaching methods:

1. Student-centered teaching 2. Pair work & Group work Teaching procedures: Step I: Welcome Mr. Du ( Watch and answer) Ask students to watch a short video of Mr. Du’s self-introduction and answer the questions. What does Mr. Du like doing? What does he want? 【设计意图：观看视频, 思考问题，引出本单元主题Dream homes, 并提出贯穿整个单元的主线——

帮助Mr. Du寻找理想家园，创设情境，又调动了学生的兴趣和积极性。】

Step II: Learn about some countries and capitals Mr. Du travelled around the world and took some photos of the interesting places in the world. 1. Present a map of the world and name some countries Mr. Du visited. 2. Present some pictures of places of interest and talk about them to learn the new words and sentences. 3. Listen and choose the best answer 1). Where did Amy visit last summer holiday? 2). What’s the capital of this country?

【设计意图：通过图片，设置语境——Mr. Du周游世界，便于学生直观地了解各个景点、各个国家以及他们的首都，让学生在情境中学习新的单词和句型，这样，既训练了学生的语言运用能力，又提升了学生的尝试。】

Step III: Have competitions 1. Ask students to choose the correct names of the countries.

2. Ask students to speak out the answer as quickly as you can 【设计意图：运用竞赛练习，调动学生积极性，巩固刚刚学的知识，帮助学生进一步理解各个国家以及他们的首都。】

Step IV: Talk about places of interest After the students enjoyed the pictures taken by Mr. Du, they began to talk about them. 1). Listen and answer 1. What country are they talking about? 2. What’s in the photo?

3. Is Mount Fuji in Tokyo? 2). Present four pictures for the students to choose from and ask students to talk about one of them with their partners. (Pair work) A: We are going to talk about Picture…. What’s this?

【设计意图：通过回答问题，检查学生是否听懂Annie 和Simon的对话，以此来训练学生的听力技巧，同时使学生了解富士山的基本信息。完成后给出图片提示学生做新的对话，练习的难度逐步提升，达到使学生能运用语言进行交际的目的。】

Step V: Make up a dialogue

Enjoy the video and make up a dialogue.

1. Ask students to think where they would like to live. 2. Make up a dialogue A: Which country would you like to live in? B: I’d like to live in ….

A: Why do you like living there? B: Because …

3. Present a question and get the students to think: Where would Eddie like to live? 【设计意图：通过视频欣赏各个国家的自然风光，使学生在感情上对他们产生向往，并提出问题进行对话，既对前面句型运用的再次巩固，也同时巧妙地引出了comic strip的内容。】

Step VI: Eddie’s dream home

1) Watch the video & answer the following questions: 1. Where would Eddie like to live? 2. Which is Eddie’s favourite restaurant?

2) Get students to read the conversation. 3). Get students to complete the passage: Eddie doesn’t like to live in a ______.He would like to live _____ to a restaurant. There are 20 ________

in Beijing. His favourite restaurant is the _____ one. He is a ___ dog. 【设计意图：在学生观看教学视频后，通过回答提出的问题，检测学生是否理解Eddie和Hobo的对话。然后进行分角色朗读，使学生更好地理解对话，最后改写对话，检测学生是否具有用短语或者句子描述图片的能力。】

Step VII: Language points 【设计意图：让学生找出

comic strips中的两个重点句型。PPT上呈现句型结构，解释相关句式涵义，链接相关句型的中考翻译句子，使学生逐步掌握并运用重点句型。】

Step VIII: PK time

【设计意图：通过比拼的方式，让学生积极参与到本课知识学习的复习中来，激发兴趣，当堂巩固。】

Step IX: Discussion 1. Discuss a question in groups and ask students to give their opinions.

Will you live abroad when you grow up? 2. Call on the students to love their own country and home. 【设计意图: 通过主动深入的课堂讨论，鼓励学生独立思考，阐述自己的想法、体会和感悟，进行感情上的升华。】
