Lesson 7 Months of the Year

Part One: Analysis of the teaching material.

Firstly, let’s focus on the

teaching material. It include 3 parts: teaching status、teaching aim、the key and difficult points. 1.Teaching status This lesson is the second unit

in this book. It teaches the students to learn months, ordinal numbers, important festivals and weather. Lesson 7 is about months of the year. It is closely connected with daily life and easy to motive the students. So we can see that it play an important role in the whole book. 2.Analysis of the students. Students in the Grade 4 have been learning English for more than a year. The learning of English gradually changes from simple words and simple sentence patterns to the ones that will be used. The majority of students are interested in English. This class continues to develop an interest in curiosity for learning English and to find opportunities to practice their listening skills.

3. Teaching aims. Knowledge objectives

1. Students will be able to aurally understand, orally use, recognize and spell the following vocabulary:

month, Jan, Feb, Mar, Apr, May, Jun, Jul Aug, Sept, Oct, Nov, Dec. 2. Students will be able to aurally understand and orally use these sentences: what's your favourite month? Whose birthday is in.? 3. Students will be able to sing the song Twelve Months Abilities objectives To actively complete classroom activities To listen to and learn songs that will help them remember English expressions. Moral objectives 1. To develop an interest in learning English. 2. To try to use English in everyday life Key points: Students can say the 12 months of the year. Difficult points：

They can use the 12 months in daily life. Teaching and Learning Methods

1. In this lesson, I will use the song interest and game interest teaching methods. 2. As for learning method, I will use cooperative learning method and

communicative method. Teaching procedures.

Step 1.

Warming-up and Lead-in

Play the Twelve Months song as students arrive at class. Greet students. Be positive and tell them that a new unit is about to begin. Begin by asking some students to tell when their birthday is (using Chinese).

Teacher: When is your birthday it's a very special day.So lets learn how to tell others your birthday in English. Step 2. Presentation 1.Explain the meaning of month. Ask students to look at the pictures. Lead the students to understand that the months can be talked about using weather and festivals as your guide. Say the month and ask the students to repeat after you. Ask general questions about month: How many days in a month? What can we do in August?

What can we do in December? Find the month in their books and ask them to say it again.

Play the audiotape and follow along. Play it again, only this time ask the students to say the months as they hear them on the audiotape.

Put the 12 month flash cards in different places in the classroom. Tell the students to find. I can first tell the students what my favourite month is and why it is my favourite. Then ask volunteers to tell what is their favourite month

4. let's sing Teacher: Okay, boys and girls. let's learn a new song. It will help you really remember the days of the month! Play the Twelve Months song once and listen to it for pleasure. Ask the students to look at page 18, part 2. Read the words to the song aloud. Then, read it aloud as the students follow along and read it with you. 5. let's do it This is a group work activity. Make new groups. Then ask the students to look at page 19part 3. First, I need to teach the abbreviated forms for the 12 months.

Whose birthday is in July?

My birthday is in July. Ask: Whose birthday is in January? Those students should hold up their hands. Repeat all 12 months in the group. Step 3. Practice and Development 1.Use your English calendar to practice how to say dates.

2.Let’s play!--- Bingo!

Each student needs a bingo game sheet and a pencil. I call out any three month words. When students, marks a row of words in any direction on his or her bingo sheet, he or she calls out Bingo! Step 4. Conclusion and Homework (1)In this step, I will prepare a chant of 12 months.
