Teaching Procedures: Step1. Analyze the title of this unit T: Ok, everyone, today we’re going to learn a new topic Meeting Your Ancestors. Do you know the meaning of ancestor? Ss:…

T: You’re right. Ancestor means a person related to you who lived a long time ago. Next, let’s follow a group of students from England to pay a visit to the Zhoukoudian caves to learn more about our ancestors. [Show some pictures about Zhoukoudian caves] T: Perhaps, most of us haven’t been to Zhoukoudian caves, so now let’s look at some pictures to learn a rough sketch it.

Step2 Objectives T: All right! Let’s read the objectives of this class together.

(Ask students to read them together.)

Step 3 Pre- reading (Show a picture) T: Now, on the screen is a picture. Have you seen it before? Are you familiar with it? Where have you seen it before? Ss: In history textbook, magazines…

T: Well, can you say something about the people in the picture? (some clues: (1) Look at the circled part. What is it? It’s a cave in which they live.

[Lead students to describe the picture] T: So we can draw a conclusion. Who are they? Primitive people or modern people? Ss: They are primitive people. T: Yes. To make a living, they had to hunt, make a fire to keep warm, pick fruits and make some stone of bone tools.

Step 4 Writing style introduction T: So, if you want to learn more about their life, please turn to page 38 of y our textbook. On this page, you can see this passage consists of dialogues and some

questions. Obviously, this reading is written in the form of questions and answers. It is similar to an interview except that the archaeologist is behaving more like a teacher guiding the students’ learning.

Step5 Reading (1)
