the Problem of the Snakes

Step 1: Revision 1. Revise some qualities of inventors. 2. Get the students to talk about some important inventions

Step 2: Pre-reading 1. Get the students to try to put the following stages in order.

1) Applying for a patent

2)Finding a problem

3)Doing research

4)Testing the solution

5)Thinking of a creative solution

6)Deciding on the invention 2.

Get the students to predict the main idea of the passage by looking at the title and the pictures.

Step 3: The first reading 1. Get the main idea of the passage. 2. Find out three approaches and three attempts mentioned in the text.

3. Check the above order. Step 4：The second reading 1. Complete the form.

2. Get the students to find out the criteria of getting a patent. Step 5: Discussion (Apply what we learnt) 1. Exx 4 on page 22. 2. Will you give the writer a patent? Why or why not? 3. What will happen to the writer if she gets the patent? 4. Do you think the writer will succeed eventually. Step 6: Writing (If time permits)

Two weeks later, the Patent Office sent a congratulation letter on my successful idea of catching the snakes. They require me to submit（提交）

the procedure of invention.
