Unit 5 Kingfishers 教学设计 Teaching objective: At the end of this class, we hope the students would be able to read the text smoothly and talk abut the kingfishers. The background of the students：

The pupils are in Grade Six. They have learned English more than three years. They have learned some animals before this class.

Teaching key and different: 1. The students can grasp the key words. 2. The students can read texts and finish the exercises. Teaching Process 一. Warm-up To play a game: TPR-activities Touch your nose. Touch your ears. Touch your eyes if you like pandas. Touch your elbow if you like tigers.

二、Preview and Presentation Step 1 Play a game: ‘Backs to the board’ to revise the animals learned before. Step 2 To show the picture of kingfisher and encourage the Ss talk about it, and let the student in the front of the board guess. Then show the title “The kingfisher”. And encourage the Ss to read the title according to the form.

Step 3 T: What do you want to know about kingfisher? Then the Ss discuss in a group with 2 minutes. Next, teacher writes down the Ss’ questions on the board. At last, let the Ss read the text quickly in silence, and invite them to answer the questions. Step 4 Teacher show other questions which should be in details

and let the Ss read the text again. Then again invite the Ss to answer the questions. The questions : 1. What do the kingfishers eat?

2. Where do the kingfishers live?

3. Are the kingfishers in danger? Why?

4. Where do the kingfishers build their nests? 5. Why is there no quiet place for the birds to make holes for the nests?

Step 5 Ask one pair to write vocabulary list on the board and invite others to add to the list. Then use the syllable form to help the Ss read the words. And also help them understand the vocabulary through TPR activities or some related pictures.
