1、
"It hurts me more than you", and "This is for your own good" -these are the statements my mother used to make years ago when I had to learn Latin, clean my room, stay home and do homework. That was before we entered the permissive period in education in which we decided it was all right not to push our children to achieve their best in school. The schools and the educators made it easy for us. They taught that it was all right to be parents who take a let-alone policy. We stopped making our children do homework. We gave them calculators, turned on the television, left the teaching to the teachers and went on vacation. Now teachers, faced with children who have been developing at their own pace for the past 15 years, are realizing we've made a terrible mistake. One such teacher is Sharon Clomps who says of her students-"so passive" -and wonders what has happened. Nothing is demanded of them, she believes. Television, says Clomps, contributes to children's passivity. "We're talking about a generation of kids who' vet never been hurt or hungry. They have learned somebody will always do it for them, instead of saying 'go and look it up', you tell them the answer. It takes greater energy to say no to a kid."
试卷第 3 页,共 11 页.

To such children as described in the passage _ A. Neither is easy to say yes nor say no B. It is easier to say no than to say yes C. It is easier to say yes than to say no D. Either is difficult to say yes or say no 48. We learn from the passage that the author's mother used to lay emphasis on _______. A. natural development B. education at school C. learning Latin D. discipline 49. By "permissive period in education" (L.1, Para.2) the author means a time _______. A. when everything can be taught at school B. when children are permitted to receive education C. when children are allowed to do what they wish to D. when every child can be educated 50. The main idea of the passage is that _______. A. it's time to be more strict with our kids B. parents should always set a good example to their kids C. parents should leave their children alone D. kids should have more activities at school

What makes a gift special? Is it the price you see on the gift receipt? Or is it the look on the recipient's face when they receive it that determines the true value? What gift is worth the most? This Christmas I was debating what to give my father. My dad is a hard person to buy for because he never wants anything. I pulled out my phone to read a text message from my 试卷第 4 页,共 11 页.
mom saying that we were leaving for Christmas shopping for him when I came across a message on my phone that I had locked. The message was from my father. My eyes fell on a photo of a flower taken in Wyoming. and underneath a poem by William Blake. The flower, a lone dandelion standing against the bright blue sky, inspired me. My dad had been reciting those words to me since I was a kid. That may even be the reason why I love writing. I decided that those words would be my gift to my father.
I called back. I told my mom to go without me and that I already created my gift. I sent the photo of the cream-colored flower to my computer and typed the poem on top of it. As I was arranging the details another poem came to mind. The poem was written by Edgar Allan Poe; my dad recited it as much as he did the other. I typed that out as well and searched online for a background to the words of it. The poem was focused around dreaming, and after searching I found the perfect picture. The image was painted with blues and greens and purples, twisting together to create the theme and wonder of a dream. As I watched both poems passing through the printer, the white paper coloring with words that shaped my childhood. I felt that this was a gift that my father would truly appreciate. Christmas soon arrived. The minute I saw the look on my dad's face as he unwrapped those swirling black letters carefully placed in a cheap frame, I knew I had given the perfect gift. 52. The idea for a special gift began to form when the author was______. A. doing shopping B. having a debate C. reading a message D. leaving for Wyoming 53. She's rarely seen without an elegant handbag on her arm, but the question of what the Queen keeps inside it has long remained a mystery. Now a new book claims to cast light on the contents of the royal Matriarch's main possession. What's in the Queens Handbag-And Other Royal Secrets reveals that though the 81-year-old British monarch(君主)does, t carry cash, keys or passport, since she doesn't own one—her bag is far from empty. Inside are a collection of little presents from her children, a make-up case, some family photos, and a camera sometimes. There's also an s-shaped metal hook that she places on the dinner table's edge to hang her bag from so that it doesn't touch the floor. Should you ever meet the Queen, it's not what's in her bag but what she does with it that should concern you. She uses her bags, of which she has about 200 made by London-based firm Lanier, to send signals to her staff. Before dining with the Queen, a point is made to inform guests that dinner will end in about five minutes after she places her bag on the table top. On walkabouts, she holds the bag to one side to show she intends to move on, at which point a lady-in-waiting joins the conversation, al-lowing her to slip away without causing offence. When at a banquet, if the Queen's bag is placed on the floor then it's a sign that she's not finding the conversation interesting, and wants nothing more than to escape. However, if the royal bag is dangling happily from the crook of her left arm, she is happy and relaxed. 51. What does the article tell us about the Queen's handbag? A. She seldom has it with her. B. She always carries the same handbag. C. It used to be thought empty. D. Its contents are not the same as ours. 52. When is it necessary for the Queen to convey her intention with her bag? A. When she is with guests. B. When she eats outside. C. When she has her staff around. D. When she is tired of speaking. 53. The Queen gives no signal when she _________. A. hangs her bag on the metal hook B. hangs her bag from her left arm C. places her bag on the floor D. puts her bag on the table top 54. By holding her bag to one side, the Queen shows she wants to _________ A. talk to her lady-in-waiting B. start a conversation C. stop to continue her walk D. go on with the talk 55. " What's in the Queen's Handbag : And Other Royal Secrets " is italicized(用斜体写)because that's _________. A. the very title of the article B. the name of a book C. the main information given in the article D. what the writer wants to stress

A clever cat has been called a hero after he prevented his owners’ home from burning down. Five-year-old Pepper has learned to open windows and lets himself out every night by using his paws to turn the latch. So when a fire broke out while his owners were at Christmas shopping, the quick-thinking cat leapt into action and opened the window to allow the poisonous smoke to escape. Owner Sharon White said, “He can climb back in through the window, so he really does come and go as he pleases. Pepper is still a bit afraid but is still managing to eat plenty of food.” Sharon and her husband Phil were handed Pepper over four years ago after a neighbor could no longer look after it. The fire started at 4 pm on Saturday after the couple went to the shops and left their microwave on a ten minute timer, which then caught fire. Sharon said, “We put something in the microwave for ten minutes and then went out to do our Christmas shopping in the local town. I discovered on the way that I had left my purse at home but decided not to turn around. It was my relative who lives next door that rang us and told us that we’d better get home as there was quite a lot of smoke coming out of our house and the firefighters were here.”
Firefighters rushed to their £350,000 house and put out the fire before it could spread and the kitchen suffered only smoke damage. Phil added, “Pepper managed to get out and smoke must have been pouring out the window which attracted the attention of the neighbors. He’s got a real mind of his own. Without him, the fire could have been so much worse.”

答案、
Learn to smile, get rid of stress I remember a song by Westlife, the first sentence of it is "Just a smile and the rain is gone." Do you like smiling? I think you should learn to smile and you can get rid of stress. First, learn to smile at yourself when something unpleasant happens in your life. If you fail an exam, face stress or you are misunderstood by your friends, don't be sad. Just smile at yourself. Smiling at yourself brings back your confidence. Sometimes the one who beats you is not others, but yourself. And smile can also keep you healthy. Second, learn to smile at others. It will make you communicate better with other people. Smiling at others makes yourself happy as well. In a word, smile is a kind of language belonging to everyone. It passes love and friendship and helps shorten the distance between you and other people. Living with a smile, every day will be shiny.
