高三英语阅读理解难题难句突破(一)

阅读理解A:深圳二模阅读D Long before iphones, the cigarette was the companion of choice for restlessness. And long before Facebook and WeChat, it was tobacco that promised to better your social life. Now, quitting smartphones has become the new quitting smoking. Of course, technology does not yellow your teeth, cause disease or lead to cancer. But some individuals are so concerned that device addiction is damaging their mental health. In order to reduce their dependence, even in Silicon Valley, people are turning off the messages that constantly buzz for their attention, banning smartphones from the bedroom and, curiously, changing the colors on their screens to a less tempting scale of gray. The big tech companies will have to work out how to respond to this new generation of quitters. Facebook is the first to go public with its attempt, hoping its recent move can make the social network more homely.

Last year the tech industry got a label-Big Tech-with unfortunate echoes of other industries that have faced fierce opposition, including Big Tobacco. Like them, the tech industry has to reduce concern from a new generation of activist shareholders(股东) that are questioning its role in the world. These campaigns are never as fierce as those faced by Big Tobacco. In the 1990s, socially responsible investors refused to put money in tobacco stocks. It is far difficult for investors to challenge Big Tech and hard to separate the good these companies do in the world--connecting old friends and giving space for people to share their ideas--from the bad. In the meantime, stopping using technology remains problematic. In The World Without Mind: The Existential Threat of Big Tech, Franklin Foer argues that tech should be seen in a similar way to junk food: a convenience that some reject for more continuing nutrition. So we need to do more to turn the tide. In the same way that public service announcements made smoking around your children taboo(禁忌),we can warn parents against losing themselves in their smartphones while taking care of kids.We can also create no-smartphone zones at dinner. Eventually smartphones could be banned from all public places and help us give our attention to the people around us instead. 32.How did people keep close relationships with others in the past? A. By smoking.

B. By drinking.

C. By phoning

D. By dining out. 33.Why is the tech industry called Big Tech? A. It plays a bad role in the world.

B. It is as big as Big Tobacco. C. It has an unfortunate name.

D. It is a giant in Silicon Valley. 34.What can we infer from Franklin Foer’s argument about the tech? A.It promotes social development.

B. It is still favored by some people. C. It is worse than Big Tobacco.

D. It offers continuing nutrition. 35.Which can be the best title for the passage? A.Creating a No Smartphone Life

B. Smartphones Enrich Our Social Life C. Smoking Does Greater Harm Than Smartphones Do

D. Quitting Smartphones Is the New Quitting Smoking

阅读理解B Since NASA (美国国家航空航天局) announced the discovery of Trappist-1, a dwarf star, and its planetary system in February, astronomers and scientists have assumed it as among the likeliest candidates for finding life outside our solar system.

Scientists thought the Trappist-1 system was at least 500 million years old when it was first discovered. But a new study has found that age to be a big underestimate (低估): At the very least, the Trappist-l star is 5.5 billion years old, almost a billion years older than our solar system. But it could be far older up to twice as old as our own solar system, according to the study by researchers from the University of California.

Old age does not necessarily mean there cannot have been, or still be forms of life on the planets in this system. However, some experts propose that the longer a planet has been around, the more time it would have had for increasingly complex forms of life to develop. Trappist-1's old age does mean that the planets in its system have absorbed billions of years of radiation that may have boiled off any liquid water and potentially even the planets atmosphere necessary for life. Mars is an example of a planet in our solar system that may have once had liquid water on its surface but lost it due to gradual evaporation(蒸发).

"If there is life on these planets, I would guess that it has to be strong life, because it has to be able to survive some potentially extreme circumstances for billions of years," said Adam Burgasser, astronomer at the University of California.

Located about 40 light years away from our solar system and one-eighth the size of the sun, Trappist-1 is orbited by seven planets that are relatively close in size to Earth. Three of these planets were found to be in the so-called habitable zone- a distance from the star that means the planets are neither too hot nor too cold to prevent liquid water from pooling on their surfaces. The fact that the planets are very close together has also raised the possibility of the spread of life between the different planets in the system. 8. How old may be the Trappist-1 according to the study by California University?

A. About 9 billion years old

B. About 5. 5 billion years old

C. About 4.5 billion years old

D. About 500 million years old 9. What can we learn about Trappist-1's old age from Paragraph 3?

A. It governs the time for forming life

B. It gives Trappist-1 advantage in supporting life

C. It makes Trappist-1's atmosphere contain no water

D. It makes Trappist-1 own few complex forms of life 10. Adams words mainly want to tell us _________.

A. the potential forms of life on these planets

B. the surviving ability of life on these planets

C. the possible existence of life on these planets

D. the severe environment for life on these planets 11. what's the center of the study according to the passage?

A. How Trappist-1 came to existence

B. How the old age of Trappist-1 affects its life

C. Whether there is life on planets of Trappist-1

D. Differences between Trappist-1 and the Earth

阅读理解C Insects have caused great damage to San San Hla`s rice field in the country, Myanmar. But for the last two years, a free app, called the “Green Way” app, on the farmer San San Hla`s smartphone is her new tool in the war against them.

“We used to just farm the way our parents showed us” she said. “But after getting the app, I now see how we should be doing it. It`s better to use proper techniques rather than just working blindly.”

San San Hla is among a growing group of farmers who are in a country where two thirds of the adults are employed in agriculture, which accounts for some 28 percent of the the country`s GDP. But the crop production is low as farmers are cut off from modern technology.

As Myanmar opened its doors, telecoms(电信) companies rushed in to take the market share, pushing Myanmar beyond the era of desktop computers and old-style mobile phones. The cost of SIM cards of smartphones has decreased quickly from $3000 in 2005 to $ 1.5 in 2013. Farmers today find themselves with smartphones in their hands. The change is an opportunity for the founders of Green Way, who launched their app in 2016 and now employ 18 full-time staff. The “Green Way app is the creation of two former agricultural students, who in 2011 set up a website for farmers, often working through

the night to keep in update. “But at that time few farmers had Internet access,” says Yin Yin Phyu , 28, explaining why “ the idea just didn`t take off “. Now they are providing farmers with up-tp-date information on everything from weather, climate change, crop prices to fertilizers. Chat forums (论坛) are connecting farmers, allowing them to get tips while experts are on hand to answer questions. But as for the development of the app, Yin Yin Phyu says there is still a long way to go.

Anyway, she is glad to hear that about 7,000 farmers have already downloaded the app, although she hears far more are accessing it through phone-to-phone sharing. 1. How does the “Green Way “ app help San San Hla ?

A. By enabling her to save much time in farming. B. By letting her make full use of the insects. C. By guiding her to change the way of growing crops D. By letting her learn her father`s ways of growing crops. 2. How can Myanmar raise the crop production according to the passage? A. To offer financial support to farmers. B. To make the farmers well-educated. C. To stop too many workers from rushing to cities. D. To promote the development of modern technology. 3. What does Paragraph 4 mainly talk about? A. The fierce competition among telecoms companies. B. The changes to Myanmar brought by modern technology. C. The popularity of telecoms companies. D. The importance of smartphone to farmers. 4. What`s Yin Yin Phyu`s attitude towards the “Green Way” app?

A. Disappointed

B. Hopeful

C. Satisfied

D. Indifferent

A buld-it-yourself solar still(蒸馏器)

is one of the best ways to obtain drinking water in areas where the liquid is not readily available. Developed by two doctors in the U.S. Department of Agriculture, it’s an excellent water collector. Unfortunately, you must carry the necessary equipment with you, since it’s all but impossible to find natural substitutes. The only components required, though, are a 5'

sheet of clear or slightly milky plastic, six feet of plastic tube, and 

5'a container— perhaps just a drinking cup — to catch the water. These pieces can be folded into a neat little pack and fastened on your belt.

To construct a working still, use a sharp stick or rock to dig a hole four feet across and three feet deep. Try to make the hole in a damp area to increase the water catcher’s productivity. Place your cup in the deepest part of the hole. Then lay the tube in place so that one end rests all the way in the cup and the rest of the line runs up — and out — the side of the hole.

Next, cover the hole with the plastic sheet, securing the edges of the plastic with dirt and weighting the sheet’s center down with a rock. The plastic should now form a cone(圆锥体) with 45-degree-angled sides. The low point of the sheet must be centered directly over, and no more than three inches above, the cup.

The solar still works by creating a greenhouse under the plastic. Ground water evaporates (蒸发) and collects on the sheet until small drops of water form, run down the material and fall off into the cup. When the container is full, you can suck the refreshment zxxk out through the tube, and won’t have to break down the still every time you need a drink.

12. What do we know about the solar still equipment from the first paragraph? A. It’s portable.

B. It’s expensive.

C. It’s complex.

D.It’s delicate.

13. What does the underlined phrase “the water catcher” in paragraph 2 refer to?

A. The tube.

B. The cup.

C. The hole.

D. The still. 14. What’s the last step of constructing a working solar still? A. Dig a hole of a certain size.

B. Weight the sheet’s center down.

C. Put the cup in place.

D. Cover the hole with the plastic sheet. 15. When a solar still works, drops of water come into the cup form

. A. beneath the sheet

B. outside the hole C. the open air

D. the plastic tube

(39期D篇)

From Dusner (three speakers) to Kelabit (five thousand)to Yiddish(1.5 million), these languages are sprawled (散开)across the globe, but like the Indian elephant, they are in danger of dying out.

Researchers at Oxford University are studying these languages. And Dr. Johanneke Sytsema, who has organized a popular seminar on endangered languages, thinks there could be a novel way to keep minority languages alive: social media. She says, “Because young people text each other how they speak, even if they don't know how to spell it.”

Minority languages are often at risk of being drowned out by the louder voices of the bigger languages, which are spoken at school and in the media. But, with social media handing control over to the users, the appearance of Facebook and Twitter might just have the unexpected effect.

Dr Sytsema speaks Frisian, which is a language spoken in a province in the Netherlands and has 350,000 speakers. Interacting with her own language has given Dr Sytsema food for thought about how languages could be saved in the future. "In Friesland, young people who don't learn much Frisian writing at school send each other messages on social media in Frisian," she says. In this way, a new generation of Frisian speakers keeps the language alive.

"6% of the world's population speak 94% of the world’ s languages,” Dr Sytsema explains. "That means that many of these languages only have a handful of speakers. But its not just a small number of speakers that make a language endangered. Some languages were once widely spoken but lost speakers over time. This can happen for many reasons, like only one language spoken in school or people moving away from their home and losing their language." Tweeting and texting in Frisian (or Sorbian, or Breton) is not enough in the long-term, though. Dr Sytsema says there are many other things we need to do. "Government policy is important," she says. "To support the language, provide teaching in that language, and subsidize (资助) radio, television, and printing.”

But why is a language worth saving in the first place? Dr Sytsema is clear because our languages are natural creations. "Natural beauty needs to be protected. Once languages die, you don't get them back, because they've grown over thousands and thousands of years,” Dr Sytsema explains. 12. What can prevent a language from dying out in Dr Sytsema' s view?

A. Spelling it frequently

B. Communicating in it on social media.

C. Keeping reading texts written in the language

D. Organizing seminars on endangered languages 13. How did Dr Sytsema find a way to keep a language alive?

A. By the lab experiments

B. By previous study results

C. By her first-hand experience

D. By comprehensive data analysis 14. What is the major cause of languages becoming endangered?

A. A small number of speakers

B Losing speakers over time

C. Being squeezed out by bigger languages

D. The appearance of Facebook and Twitter 15. what's the writer's purpose in writing the passage?

5

A. To tell us the danger of losing our languages

B. To show the importance of various languages

C. To appeal us to preserve the minority languages.

D. To call on us to have more communication with others

阅读理解F In the fight against crime, police forces and governments are increasingly using security cameras in public places, some people , however, are opposed to this, saying that it affects the privacy.

The individual has a right to privacy! Security cameras have become common in many countries. Whereas they appeared only in banks and at high-security areas before, they are now entering public places such as malls, streets, stadiums and transport. Many people feel this affects their privacy.

Do the advantages of these cameras outweigh their negative impact? Surveillance (监视) cameras have several benefits. An obvious benefit is that the police can catch criminals in the act, thus reducing crime. This will make the streets safer for ordinary people. A more important point is that criminals, particularly young offenders may be deterred. They may drop the idea to commit crimes because of cameras and thus society will be a lot safer. Cameras are also cost-effective. Authorities do not need to spend large amounts of money on police.

However, security cameras are far from being a perfect solution. The biggest objection concerns privacy. Many people feel that they should be free to travel or move around a shop, mall, street or country without being photographed or recorded. They feel that being watched constantly is like being in a prison and that ordinary people are losing their freedom because of these devices. Another point is that although the police say that only criminals have something to hide from the cameras, many people do not trust administrations with too much information. Bad people in those administrations might use information in the wrong way. Thirdly, cameras and computers can make mistakes.

In conclusion, although there are definite advantages in using surveillance devices such cameras, we need to balance the need for security with respect for the individual`s privacy and freedom if we do not trust the members of society, the whole society will be in a complete mess. 1. What can we learn from the first two paragraphs? A.

Cameras have much wider use than before. B.

Cameras make us live in a much smaller world. C.

Cameras urgently require technological reform. D.

Cameras have brought much convenience to our life. 2 What does the underlined part in Paragraph 3 mean? A.

Not dare to commit crime. B.

Not get any influences. C.

Be informed of the harm D.

Know the severe consequences. 3. What is the structure of the passage? A. ①--②③④--⑤

B. ①--②--③④⑤

6

C. ①②--③④--⑤

D. ①②--③--④⑤

4. What`s the author`s attitude towards the using of cameras? A.

Opposed

B.

Approving

C.

Skeptical

D.

Some of the world’s most famous musicians recently gathered in Paris and New Orleans to celebrate the first annual International Jazz Day. UNESCO( United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) recently set April 30 as a day to raise awareness of jazz music, its significance, and its potential as a unifying(联合) voice across cultures. Despite the celebrations, though, in the U.S. the jazz audience continues to shrink and grow older, and the music has failed to connect with younger generations. It’s Jason Moran’s job to help change that. As the Kennedy Center’s artistic adviser for jazz, Moran hopes to widen the audience for jazz, make the music more accessible, and preserve its history and culture. “Jazz seems like it’s not really a part of the American appetite,” Moran tells National Public Radio’s reporter Neal Conan. “What I’m hoping to accomplish is that my generation and younger start to reconsider and understand that jazz is not black and write anymore. It’s actually color, and it’s actually digital.”

Moran says one of the problems with jazz today is that the entertainment aspect of the music has been lost. “The music can’t be presented today the way it was in 1908 or 1958. It has to continue to move, because the way the world works is not the same,” says Moran. Last year, Moran worked on a project that arranged Fats Waller’s music for a dance party, “Just to kind of put it back in the mind that Waller is dance music as much as it is concert music,”

says Moran. “For me, it’s the recontextualization. In music, where does the emotion(情感) lie? Are we, as humans, gaining any insight(感悟) on how to talk about ourselves and how something as abstract as a Charlie Parker record gets us into a dialogue about our emotions and our thoughts? Sometimes we lose sight that the music has a wider context,” says Moran, “so I want to continue those dialogues. Those are the things I want to foster.”

28.Why did UNESCO set April 30 as International Jazz Day? A.To remember the birth of jazz.

B.To protect cultural diversity. C.To recognize the value of jazz.

D.To encourage people to study music. 29.What does the underlined word “that”

in paragraph 3 refer to? A.Jazz becoming more accessible. B.Jazz being less popular with the young. C.The production of jazz growing faster. D.The jazz audience becoming larger.

30.What can we infer about Moran’s opinion on jazz? A.It should keep up with the times.

B.It remains black and white. C.It will disappear gradually.

D.It changes every 50 years. 31.Which of the following can be the best title for the text? A. Celebrating the Jazz Day.

B.The Rise and Fall of Jazz. C.The Story of a Jazz Musician. D.Exploring the Future of Jazz.
