The Olympic Games

Teaching aims:

Help students know what the speech is about.

Help students learn how to read a speech.. 3.

Introduce some famous athletes to students and learn from the athletes.

Teaching procedures:

Step1.Greetings and lead-in:

Enjoy the song “You and Me”, and ask students why the song is made.

Step2.Reading strategy:

1) What is a speech?

2) How does the speaker attract the audience’s interest?

Step3. Fast reading:

1) Read for main idea.

2) Answer a question

Step4. Careful reading:

Read for detailed information. Underline the key words.

Step5. Talking:

Why does the author choose these athletes?

If you are to give a speech about famous athletes, who will you choose? Why?

 Summaries about the athletes

Step6. Homework:

Write about the athlete and what you’ve learned.

Para 1: general information about the athlete and the achievements at the Olympic
