课题: Grammar and usage: general introduction to modal verbs

Thoughts on the design: 本节课是以“情态动词”为专题的第一节语法课，旨在使学生清楚情态动词的基本分类，大致意义与用法。教学设计以sports meeting为话题来整合教学内容，把话题“运动会”作为课堂的“明线”，把语法项目“情态动词”作为课堂的“暗线”，将话题讨论和语法教学有机地融为一体。在sports meeting话题的背景下，整节课又设计了before the sports meeting, during the sports meeting和after the sports meeting三个小话题，贯穿整个课堂。课堂采用语法隐性教学和显性教学相结合的方式。第一部分隐性教学先创设情景，然后引导学生在情境中关注语法的形式，体会意义和用法；第二部分采用显性教学通过视频引导学生了解语法规则，然后在语境中观察，讨论和总结意义，用法。接着以总结前部分内容为语篇进行的综合训练和形式多样的小组抽号练习的方式检测效果。最后总结并引导学生树立正确的体育运动观和体育竞争观，达到德育渗透的目的。

Teaching procedures: Step 1 Lead-in Show a picture and ask Ss some questions about the sports meeting. Present some slogans to encourage Ss and ask them about the underlined words.

整个导入环节由展示平江一中运动会的照片，标语和口号，激发学生的兴趣和好胜心。同时利用问题和答案导出情态动词，切入主题。

Step 2

Basic categories, meanings and functions of modal verbs

2) Summarize the features of those sentences given by Ss and introduce the first category of modal verbs (can/could).

3) Help Ss to practice this usage by observing two pictures and talking about the changes of a little girl.

此环节旨在引导学生掌握情态动词的前四种分类范畴。采用语法隐性教学，以运动会前的筹备工作，运动会中的注意事项为主线，围绕话题结合语法内容创设真实的情景，活化教材，激活语法课堂。

[Explanation] 基于对前一环节的理解，此环节采用语法显性教学。首先观看一段教练对运动员进行指导的视频，利用真实的语境让学生感知，然后要求学生讨论并快速帮助学生导出，总结语法规则。

此环节为巩固部分。练习一以选择正确的情态动词来完成运动会的一则通知，首位呼应，对话题内容和语法进行综合的运用，体现了对学生灵活运用语法的要求。练习二以游戏的形式进行，且题目形式多样尽量覆盖本节课所有语法重点，不仅保持了学生的兴趣也很好地达到了训练检测的效果。
