In this period, students will learn about the background information about sport. They are expected to search and find the information needed in order to prepare a speech about sport. Teaching procedures: Step1: Begin the class by asking the following questions: Brainstorming: What sporting events are performed in the Olympic Games? Step 2:Lead-in 1.

Do you know why these sporting events are held in the Olympics? 2.

How does a sport enter the Olympics? Step3: Reading A What requirements must be met before a sport can be considered by the IOC? What sports have been removed from the Olympics? Why? What sports have been added in the Olympics ? In which year? What other sports will probably be included? Why? Which sport is still trying to get into the Olympics? Step4: Reading B How many teams are mentioned in the article? What are they?

How many matches are mentioned in this article ? Which team won in each match? What does the title ”Winning isn’t everything” mean? Step5: Discussion Discuss the eight questions in Part B .Student should each work on

a different part of the speech. They will be given a chance to present in front of class.
