1.

be able to learn about the history of kites ; 2.

be able to talk about a picnic; 3.

master the usage of the new words, new phrases and sentence patterns.

Teaching procedures: Step 1. Prevision and lead in 1.

Check the prevision by themselves. 2.

Enjoy some interesting pictures and paly a guessing game: What outdoor activity is it? 3.

Make a conversation to talk about your favourite outdoor activity.

Step 2. Presentation—Chinese kites 1.

Listen to the conversation and finish Part A1 on Page 75. 2.

Ask a group to share the history of kites with the other students. 3.

Listen to the tape and make a match in Part A2 on Page 75. 4.

Use the information in Part A2 to complete the article in Part A3. 5.

Review the history of kites:

（1）Group work: Ask and answer:

1) When did Chinese begin to make kites? 2) In the Warring States period(战国时期), who made the first kite? What's the first kite? What did Lu Ban use to make kites? 3) In the Eastern Han dynasty(东汉王朝), when did people begin to use paper

to make kites? 4) In the 13th century, what did Marco Polo do after he visited China? 5) In the Ming and Qing dynasties(明朝清朝), was kite flying a very popular

outdoor activity at that time? 6) Now, which city in China is famous for making kites now? （2）Group work: Retell the history and learn more from it. 6.

Have a discussion: What do you think of the history of kites?

Step 3. Presentation—Speak up 1.

Invite a pair to show the other students their dialogue about a picnic.

Listen to the recorder and answer: What can they do when they have a picnic? 3.

Read the conversation together and finish the table. 4.

Think it further:

If you get lost(迷路) and want to call your family, what do you need? If you feel thirsty outside, what do you need? 5.

Pair work: Use the conversation on the book as a model to make a new dialogue.

Step 4. Language points discussion:

Group work: We all want to learn English better. Can you work out these difficulties?

Step 5. Summary:

Summarize what we have learnt today.

Step 6. Homework 1. Make a list about outdoor activities in a picnic. 2. Make a poster about your picnic to invite other students to take part in(参加).
