Teaching Design Teaching aims: Learning ability goals: 1. Master the new words and useful expressions in the listening text. 2. How to improve students listening skills. Emotional aims: 1. Let students know something about cloning.

2. Develop students’ sense of cooperative learning.

Learning important points: To express their ideas about animal cloning and human cloning.

Learning difficult points: To understand and talk about animal cloning and human cloning. Analysis of the Students:

The students’ English level is greatly limited, because they live in the countryside and have few chances to speak English. However, they still have a strong desire for listening and speaking. So I’m supposed to design different tasks to make sure students of different levels will be trained in the whole process, so that all the students will be active in the class activities. Teaching procedures: step one: listening Task 1 Pre-listening: Introduce a film, the six day to the students. It is about cloning. let students see a small part of the film and see what happened to clara’s

favorite dog? let the students get the answer: Clara’s favorite dog died and Adam was required to clone the animal for his daughter at RePet. Then continue to see the film and let students know what happened at RePet. And ask a question:

Did he make his daughter’s dog Oliver cloned? Why? Ask some students to answer this question. let students get the opinion of Adam about animal cloning. come back to the film, this time ask students:What happened when Adam Gibson went home? The answer is that he saw Oliver and himself cloned. continue to ask students: what was Adam’s feeling at that moment? Then ask students what is his or her opinions about animal cloning? let them express their ideas about animal or human cloning. Task 2: While-listening: 1. Read these statements before listening. Tick those that you hear. ① Cloning will bring dead pets to life. ② There were 627 experiments before Dolly was successfully clone ③ Cloning may help cure

serious illnesses. ④ It is a dead end. ⑤

Dolly was “middle-aged” when she was born.

⑥ So your grandmother would be able to start her life all over gain and live to an old age.

2: Listen to the tape again and then fill in the chart:

Rachel’s ideas about cloning

1.It is______ to animals.

Xiao Qing’s ideas about cloning

1.Scientists are doing a ___________ job.

2. It makes them do _______________. 2.It may bring people’s

____________back to life.

3.It

is a _________________. 3.It may cause

problems______________

4. He doesn’t agree with ___________.

4.Scientists need a bit of

_____________.

5.It _______ the species. 5.It may _____________ for serious

illness.

Step two: speaking Discussion & presentation Let students have a group discussion. Talk about whether he or she agree with animal cloning. Then make a dialogue with their partner. give them some phrases. If they are for

animan cloning. That’s a good idea.

I support… because…

I agree with…because….

Your argument has convinced me because…

That’s a great idea!

Your ideas sound very encouraging to me. If they are against animal cloning. I cannot accept your argument because…

No, I can’t agree with… because…

How can you believe that? I would like to agree with you but…

I don’t care for your ideas because…

No, that is not reasonable because….

Step three: Homework

Come back to the film and ask students listen to what is Mr. Drucker’s opinion about human cloning? then ask the students what are their opinons about human cloning? Should we clone humans? let the students write a composition about human cloning after class. and give them some arguments. Arguments for cloning humans:

1. cure serious illnesses. 2. help scientists do further research into some special fields. 3. help people to have babies. Arguments against cloning humans:

1. give rise to moral problems. 2. create more terrorists. 3. lead to the spread of new diseases. 4. greatly reduce genetic diversity.

At the end of the class let students enjoy the happy ending of the film. Let them understand that cloning is sometimes good for us.
