Step1. Leading in

Ask students to read aloud the following sentences.



The first thing I did was to see if there were any products that might help me, but there only seemed to be powders designed to kill snakes.



I placed the frozen bowl over the snakes’ habitat and the ice-cubes on top of the bowl to keep it cool.



The next morning I carried in my hand a small net used for catching fish.



Look at the excited boy!



You seem frightened.



The readers wished the serial story continued.

Ask the students to underline the Past Participles in the sentences and tell their functions. Possible answers:

designed(PP. as Att.) / frozen(PP. as Att.) /

used(PP. as Att.) / excited(PP. as Att.) / frightened(PP. as Pre.)

Step2. Revising Useful Structures

The Past Participles Used as Attribute 1.

Ask the students to translate the following into English. ▶



The Past Participles Used as Predicative

With many brightly colored flowers planted around the building, his house looks like a beautiful garden. / With fallen leaves buried in the earth every year, the soil becomes richer and richer. 2.

Ask the students to sum up the sentence structures using

the Past Participles as Object Complement. Possible answers:



see sth. done / think sth. done: 过去分词位于see, hear, feel, observe, notice, find, consider等表示感觉和心理状态的动词宾语之后作宾补



have sth. done / make oneself done: 过去分词位于make, get, have, leave等表示使、让的动词宾语之后作宾补



with sth. done: 过去分词位于with, without 等介词宾语之后作宾补
