Teaching Plan For Unit 4 Pygmalion ----Using language(listening and speaking)

Teaching Aims: 1. Language Competence: A. Students can learn to appreciate the content of an English play, including its words and expressions. B. Understand and apply what they’ve learnt to solve problems. 2. Thinking quality: Students can use logical thinking and critical thinking to reflect on the social reality in the play. 3. Learning ability: Students can practise listening and speaking skills and finish different tasks in given time. 4. Emotional education: Students can be inspired by the story and learn to improve themselves by working hard. Teaching Key and Difficult points: 1. Students can understand the play and solve problems. 2. Students learn to dig out the deep meaning of the play. Teaching Methods: Task-based teaching Teaching Aids:

Teaching Procedures: Step 1: Pre-listening (lead in)

A free talk and pictures given to show the love for beauty both in China and in western countries.

（目的：通过学生已有知识导入本课，激发学生兴趣。）

Step 2: While-listening Task 1: Listen for the main plot of the play.

Play a part of the listening text and ask students to summarize the main plot.

(who, when, where, what) （目的：欣赏戏剧的第一步，了解基本剧情，为以下任务做好铺垫。）

Task 2: Listen, watch and think

Show a video of the play and ask students to get the adjectives to describe the personality of the characters.

( impatient, polite , self-important, anxious, emotional, kind, generous, rude, ambitious ) （目的：通过欣赏人物语言、表情、动作等让学生了解人物性格，体会戏剧冲突。）

Task 3: Further thinking

What led to the conflict between them?

A. Because the poor couldn’t get along with the rich. B. Because they lived in a society where social classes and money were the most important .

（目的：让学生讨论人物之间产生冲突的原因，引发对社会现实的思考，是承上启下的一个环节。）

Step 3: Post-listening: Solving the conflict (speaking)

Discuss what you need to do to change Eliza into a lady. Give some guidance to students. Give them 2 choices to report their answers. Things that need to be changed: Eliza’s appearance (clothes, hairstyle…) Eliza’s language (grammar, pronunciation…) Eliza’s behavior （目的：学生置身于戏剧的真实环境中，以主角的身份去解决问题，有助于提高他们的积极性，并对自己的言行、学习等有一定的感悟。）

Step 4: Summary: How to enjoy a play （目的：根据前面内容的铺垫，升华出本剧的主题，给学生以积极正面的价值观为指导。再对本节课进行三方面的总结，巩固所学知识。）

Step 5: Self-assessment

After learning this class, I am able to do the following things: 1. Explain what it was that turned Eliza into a fair lady. 2. Learn how to appreciate an English play. 3. Use some listening and speaking skills to finish the given tasks. 4. Think logically and critically about the social background. 5. Know the importance of making efforts and trying hard to improve oneself. （目的：正确评价、了解自己顶学习情况，并以不同的作业选择满足学生不同需求。）

Step 6: Homework 1.Compulsory（必做）: Write down what you’ve discussed and hand it in. 2.Optional（选做）: Enjoy the entire film with your classmates .
