Unit 3 Inventors and Inventions using language

Analysis of the teaching material:

The teaching material is the using language part of module8, unit3. The topic of this unit is inventors and inventions. This class is about following the inventing process of a real inventor, Alexander Graham Bell. This is a description of why and how he came to produce his most famous invention : the telephone.

Analysis of the learning condition: The students have studied in high school for two years. They have achieved certain English level. They have the ability to read a passage to find key words and they can express themselves in English. After the previous learning, they are familiar with the topic--inventors and inventions. With some background knowledge and language, it will be easier for them to express their own opinion about the life.

Teaching objectives: 1. Language and skills: 

The students will be able to master some key words.

The students will be able to find out key words to get the main idea of the passage. 3.

The students will become more concerned about how to plan their study and life.

Teaching Procedures

Step1: Lead-in With the help of a video, the topic “life

planning”is led in naturally. Step2: word study beaten track, dive into, dynamic, current, associate, practical, invaluable

Step3: Fast reading Task 1 to get the main idea of each paragraph Task 2 to get the main idea of the passage

Step4: careful reading Task 1 to get the information about Bell’s life Task 2 to get the procedures of inventing the telephone

Step5:Creating and Speaking

In this part, the students are required to talk about their opinion about Bell’s characteristics.

Conclusion Watch another video and ask students to share what they’ve learnt from this class. Then appreciate a poem.

Homework After class, please write a short passage about your discussion.
