Module Six Unit 2 Poems Reading

Analysis of students: Senior high school students of Grade Two have laid a solid foundation of words. While the reading skills need improvement and they have no idea of English poems. Analysis of teaching materials: This reading passage outlines the characteristics of five simple forms of English poems and includes examples of these forms.. Teaching aims: 1. To learn about the characteristics of five simple forms of English poems. 2. To grasp some basic reading skills. 3. To arouse Ss’ interest in appreciating and writing Cinquain poems. Teaching methods: Group work; student-centered; task-based teaching method

Teaching key points: 1.

To learn about the characteristics of five simple forms of English poems;. 2.

To enjoy and analyze Nursery rhyme and Cinquain; 3.

To get familiar with the rules of Cinquain and write a Cinquain. Teaching difficult points: 1.

Teaching Procedures: Step 1. Lead-in Purpose: To lead Ss to the topic through a video and arouse students’ interest

in learning about English poems. Show the video of a Chinese song When you are old and tell the students actually it is a poem written to the lover. Play another song “You are my sunshine”

and sing the song

together. Step 2Fast reading Purpose: To enable students to pick out useful information, rearrange and summarize it. Go through the passage very quickly and finish the following two tasks: 1. Find out how many forms of poems are mentioned and what they are. 2. Underline the characteristics of each form. Step 3 Practice Purpose: To enable students to get an outline of the five forms of English poems. Three poems are given for Ss to practise 1.This poem belongs to _________.

Step 4 Enjoy and analyze: Nursery rhyme and Cinquain Purpose: To enable students to further understand the characteristics of Nursery rhyme and Cinquain and the rules of writing.

1.Listen and read Poem A , pay attention to its rhyme, rhythm and repetition. 2. Learn to sing. 3.Read poem D and analyse the rules of writing a Cinquain. (Group work) Poem D Brother Beautiful, athletic Teasing, shouting, laughing Friend and enemy too Mine

4.Share the rules of Cinquain: 1 noun (topic of the poem) 2 adjs (describe the topic) 3 V-ings (describe actions) 4 words (opinions or feelings) 1 word(restates the topic in another word) 5.Read poem E to further experience the rules of Cinquain. Poem E Summer Sleepy, salty Drying, drooping, dreading Week in, week out Endless Step 5 Writing Purpose: Further experience the rules of writing Cinquain and enjoy the course of writing a poem 1.

Write a Cinquain by students themselves. 2.

Show the writings of students’ and students will come to the front and read their own poems. Step 6 Homework 1.Recite one of the poems in background music.
