This is the second teaching period of this unit, aiming to help students get a good understanding of the reading material in this unit. The emphasis of this period is mainly placed on the background, the development of the story and the reading skills such as skimming and scanning. Meanwhile, teachers should motive students’

Lack of the vocabulary leads them to read slowly and understand the passage badly. They are not active in class for lacking confidence. So teachers should motivate the students’ interests in reading. Lead in (aims : arouse the students’ interests in the topic and let the students know something about his aims and his qualities by playing a short video of one of Mandela’s speeches. Ask the students to find the key words and discuss the qualities Mandela has.

Reading (aims: lead the students to use different reading strategies to solve different problems.

1) Train the students to grasp the main idea by skimming. 2) Train the ability of the students to master the details by scanning 3) Lead the students to understand the text deeper. 4) Let the students to revise the content of the text by summary.
