6B unit 8 Our dreams (Story time)
Knowledge aims: 1. Ss will be able to understand, and read the key words and phrases in the real situation, such as dream, an astronaut, a football player, a dancer, a pianist; come true, in the future, care about, and etc. Sound, pictures, group work and teacher’s hint and explanation will be useful. 2. Ss will be able to understand, speak and use the key sentence pattern in the real situation: … wants to be… . He/She wants to do sth. In order to achieve this, teacher’s example, summary of the sentence pattern, memory of the professional words and pair work are necessary. 3. Ss will be able to understand the main idea of the text, and with the help of pictures, video, mind map on the blackboard and group work, most Ss can retell the story correctly.
Ability aim is: To develop Ss’ ability of listening, speaking, working in groups and how to communicate with each other in English well.
Emotional aims: Ss will be able to feel the importance and charm of the dreams, set up the right value and strive for the realization of dreams.
In order to achieve these aims, we must be clear about the important points and difficult points. Then the teaching important points are the following:
1. Ss will be able to understand, speak and use the key sentence pattern in the real situation: … wants to be… and He/She wants to do sth.
2. Ss will be able to understand the main idea of the text, and with the help of pictures, video, mind map on the blackboard and group work, most Ss can retell the story correctly.
And the teaching difficult points are the following:
1. Ss will have difficulty in pronouncing and memorizing the key words: an astronaut, a pianist.(板书)
2. Ss will have difficulty in understanding the main idea of the text and how to talk about people’s dreams according to what they have learnt in this class. How to achieve these aims? I’d like to talk about my teaching methods. Part 3 Teaching methods Dealing with this lesson, I’ll use “dreams” as the main line, Ss will be the real masters in class while me, myself acts as director. I’ll also help Ss receive some moral education while they are learning the English language. To achieve my aim, I’ll use the following teaching methods: 1. Communicative Approach 2. Task based watch and listen activity

3. Question and answer activity 4. Pair work or group work activity And in order to practice my teaching methods well, I need the following teaching aids: 1. a projector 2. multimedia 3. the blackboard
Part 4 Teaching procedure I have designed following steps to achieve above aims. Before class, Ss watch the video and sing together
2. guess & say – Stars’ dreams
Teacher’s own dream can arouse Ss’ interest to discuss this topic. Then, I will summarize “What do I want to be?” “Why do I want to be a teacher?”. This is an example for Ss to better learn the key sentence pattern in next step. By talking about three super stars’ dreams, Ss can work in pairs and practice the key sentence pattern in the real situation. 板书

Step 2 While-reading In order to help Ss better understand the main idea of the text, there will be 6 tasks in this step. I’ll talk about it in details.
Task 1.listen and circle Ss listen to the story and circle the dream jobs they hear, which can help most Ss understand the main idea of the text for the first time and catch the key words by listening. 板书6个职业They will hear these 6 dream jobs. But how to read and try to memorize these? In task 2,
Task 2.think and read Ss try to read these words in groups of 4. They can help each other, or get the help from the other words, or ask the teacher for help.
Ss will have difficulty in these two words, I’ll explain in details like this.
With the help of group work, Ss can be the master of their own. Teacher’s guidance of word learning can help Ss better memorize the new words.
Task 3.watch and choose Ss watch the video and match every student’s dream job, and report like this: …

and the blackboard design will be like this. This can help Ss practice the key sentence pattern for the second time and will help them prepare for the following reading. 板书:人物
Ss know Mike, Liu Tao’s dreams, but why do they have these dreams? In task 4,
Task 4.read and underline Ss work in groups of 4, read the text quickly and underline why they have these dreams.
Most Ss can get detailed information by fast reading. This can help develop Ss’ independent learning ability. Ss check out the answers in groups, which can train Ss’ cooperative learning ability and good communication skills.
Task 5. Miss Li’s dream
After talking about Ss’ dreams, how about Miss Li?
What’s her dream?. Then, Ss will discuss in pairs: What do you think of Miss Li? This is an open question, which can inspire Ss to think. The image of “teachers” is
great in the mind of Ss and the function of moral education does not need more words.
Task 6.read and retell After the explanation of the whole text, it’s time to read.
Reading is the input during the language leaning, I’ll use 3 steps, 3 levels, to help Ss get more input and prepare for the output. By using “stars” to evaluate Ss’ reading, weakens the evaluation results and helps Ss enjoy the evaluation process.
After reading, Ss will retell the story with the help of BD. After this, I will present a story book, Step 3 Post-reading 1. Talk about the story: Willy, the dreamer Three Ss try to tell Willy’s stories together with the teacher. We can give the other Ss an example to speak English bravely. Then Ss work in group of 4 and try to tell stories in their story books (Book A, B, C and D).
The story book has the similar theme with our story time, which can fully test if Ss really master what they have learnt in the class. After sufficient input, it’s time for
Ss to show themselves. It’s one of the aim of our English learning to enable Ss to express themselves confidently by what they have learnt in class.
2. Discuss and answer: Will Willy’s dreams come true? This is also an open question. Ss can say what they think is right, is useful. This can help Ss set up right value and strive for the realization of their dreams and be what they want to be. “Focus on one dream, work hard, and you can be what you want to be.”

Step 4 Homework 1. Follow the VCD to read the story time, please read it fluently and beautifully.
2. Talk about Willy’s dream to your friends or parents 3. Think about your own dream, we’ll talk about it tomorrow
The assignment pays attention to the oral English. More reading can avoid the appearance of “dumb English”.
From “others” to “self”, Sscan better think about themselves and lay a good foundation for the next lesson.
