Project Winning isn’t Everything

Learning objectives: By the end of the class, students will be able to 1.

understand the main idea and some specific details of the passage “Winning isn’t everything”.

课堂设计指导思想：

这是Project的第二篇文章，我们备课组把它作为第二课时来上。让学生从自己熟悉的足球运动开始，通过文章中故事的阅读，引入主题“赢并不能代表一切”。

Procedure: Step 1 Lead in Lead in by talking about football &rules in football games. 【设计说明】从学生熟悉的话题谈起，让学生了解足球运动有自己的规则，不能用“手”击球。比赛必须遵守规则，从而导入主题“Winning isn’t everything”.

Step 2 Reading Get the students to read the passage to find out the answers to the questions: 1. How many teams and matches are mentioned in the passage? 2. Which team won in the first match? 3. What did the Eagle’s captain say to the reporter after the match? 4. What happened to the Eagles in the next match? 5. What did the Kangaroos do after they went home? 6. How did the Bears win the final match in the next tournament? 7. What did the Kangaroos' captain say to the reporter after the match? 8. What did the Kangaroos’ players do for the rest of their lives? 【设计说明】让学生练习“skimming”与”scanning”的两种阅读技巧，通过阅读熟悉了解故事内容，为后面的讨论搭建平台。

Step 3 Language Study Explain some difficult words, phrases, and sentence pattern to help students to understand the passage further. 【设计说明】

从单词到短语到长难句，让学生掌握课文中出现的重要知识点，并且帮助学生更好的理解课文。

Step 4 Discussion Get the students to discuss the following questions: Do you think “Winning is everything in a match”? What can we learn from this story?

What are the spirits of sports or the spirits of Olympic Games? What is more precious to you? 【设计说明】让学生在充分了解课文内容之后展开讨论，并结合自己生活实际讨

论在比赛或者生活中“赢”的重要性，但是否“赢”就是一切，让学生认识到人生重要的是什么，为下一个写作环节做好铺垫。
