(2) To talk about the history of kites using simple past tense correctly

教学过程：

Step 1 warm up and lead in

1 Read the new words in groups：Present the new words on the screen, ask students to read them by themselves. then ask one more able student to read them, other students read after her or him. Teacher gives some help if necessary. 2 Revise some outdoor activities: present some pictures of outdoor activities. Ask: What outdoor activities would you like to do?Why? 3

Say : Do you know what outdoor activity I would like to do ?

I would like to fly kites with my families on sunny and windy days in spring. Present some pictures of kites and ask them to discuss with their partners about these questions : (1) Do you like flying kites? (2) Where do you usually fly kites? (3) What do these kites look like ? (3) What are they made of?

Step 2 listening

1 Look at the pictures on page 75. What does the first /second/third/fourth kite look like? 2 Listen to the tape and finish Part A : The students are telling Mr Wu about their kites.Listen to the tape and write the correct names under the kites 3Check their answers :Whose kite looks like a bird? What does Simon’s kite look like?

Step 3 Presentation and listening

1 Present pictures of “wood”, “bamboo”, “paper”. Practice the sentence structures: We can use …to make kites .We can make kites out of …. 2 If you want to see more colourful kites,you can go to Weifang , a city in Shandong province. 风筝，也称“纸鸢”，“鹞子”。放风筝是中国民间传统的体育项目，现已成为一项国际比赛项目。相传在战国时期，墨子以木头制成最早的风筝，后来他的学生鲁班用竹子改进墨子的风筝材质，制成多线风筝。东汉的蔡伦改进了造纸术，于是人们开始用纸来制作风筝。13世纪，意大利人马可波罗来到中国，回国后把风筝介绍到西方。在明清两代，放风筝成为民间主要的户外休闲活动之一。山东省潍坊市的放风筝活动闻名遐迩，当地设有国际风筝节。
