BOOK8 Unit 3 Inventors and Inventions--- Speaking and Writing

Aims: Arouse students’ interest in speaking; Enable students to write an application letter.

Procedures: Step1: Lead in --- suppose you are a college graduate Now, you’re finding a job. If there is a job of an assistant in James Dyson’s company, what will you do in order to get it?

Step 2: Speaking

Task 1: Role Play (角色扮演) 角色：Liu Xue

你是Liu Xue，刚大学毕业，你想在James Dyson的公司找一份工作，你现在正打电话到James Dyson的公司咨询有关应聘的信息，公司的一位Hiring manager接了电话并做了回答。

Hello，is that James Dyson’s company？

M: Yes, Can I help you?

S: I’m interested in your ad for an assistant. And what do I need if I want to work in your company? M: 你有与科技相关的学位证书吗？

Dear Mr Dyson,

I would like to apply to become an assistant in your company.

I expect to get a Master’s degree in mechanical engineering from Beijing University in 2008. In the past few years, I have got experience in designing new projects and developed good professional competence in my subjects.

I worked in my holidays for a company that designed engines for jeeps. I helped them design several parts of the new engine. It made me think I would like to work in a real inventor’s company.

I understand that I have the qualifications and experience that you need for the personnel in your company. I would be grateful if you would consider employing me in your company.
