Teaching aims: a. The students should master the key words and sentences. b. They can express their feelings using the new knowledge. Key points:

a. Key words: cold, the dark, hot food, sleep alone, sleeping alone ,rat

I’m afraid of …./ I’m not afraid of + n./ ing.

Teaching Steps:

Step 1:

Warming up

First sing a song----“See you at Tony’s”

Step 2: Presentation:

Introduce the words from the powerpoint: Using the pictures and flashes let the students know the new words: (cold, the dark, hot food, sleep alone, sleeping alone ,rat) Lead in the new sentence:

b. Key sentences: I’m afraid of …/ I’m not afraid of ….

Explain the meaning of the expressions, I’m afraid of …I’m not afraid of. ..introduce the words/sentences under the pictures using the TPR technique described in previous volumes. Then give the pupils some example sentences.You could also tell them about some of the things that frighten you(information about the teacher is always interesting for the pupils). Let the pupils have some time to look at the pictures and then tell them to make sentences about their own fears. You should wait until all the pupils have had a turn to speak before you correct the sentences. It is better not to interrupt while they are speaking, otherwise they will lose track of what they want to say.

Step 3: Play a game

Golden eyes. Step 4:Practise in four.

The pupils make sentences: I’m afraid of …./ I’m not afraid of …

Step 5: Listening exercises:(Listen and complete Sam’s poem.)

Listen to the tape then fill in the blanks. Step6:Write your own poem..
