I. Teaching aims and learning objectives By the end of the lesson, students should be able to: 1. distinguish different directions;

2. tell people the location of a particular place; 3. talk about a trip they are going on.

II. Teaching contents 1. New words and phrases: follow, path, north, west, south, east, trip, kilometer, have to 2. New structures: Don’t be afraid.

Sunshine zoo is north of Sunshine Middle School. Where are you going for our class trip? How will we get there?

Step 1 Lead-in Free talk T: May I ask you some questions about your hobbies? (1) What would you like to do in your free time? (2) Do you like travelling?

(3) Where would you like to travel?

(4) What difficulties do you often meet during your travel? 【设计意图：通过学生比较熟悉和感兴趣的话题导入新课，使其迅速进入本课话题，又为接下来的教学做好铺垫。】

Step 2 Presentation 1. Watch and answer T: Our friends Eddie and Hobo also meet a problem. Watch the video and answer the following questions. (1) What are Eddie and Hobo doing?

(2) Where are Eddie and Hobo?

(3) What problem do they have?

(4) Does Hobo really know the way?

2. Act the conversation out 3. Language points

(1) Get the latest version of a map.

Step 1 Lead-in 1. Different directions T: Look at the picture and tell me what directions the blue arrows are pointing.

What directions are the red arrows pointing? 2. Find the places T: Look at this map. Suppose you are in the zoo. Can you find the location of the cinema/the school/the museum? 【设计意图：本环节让学生掌握表达方位的基本句型，并且进行一定的练习，进而为后面的教学做准备。】

Step 2 Part A

1. Mark the places on the map T: The students are planning a class trip. Let’s help them find the places on the map. Listen carefully while I am reading the instructions and mark the places on the map.

(1) Sunshine zoo is north of Sunshine Middle School.

(2) Sunny Garden is west of the zoo.

(3) Lake Park is south of Sunny Garden.

(4) Sunshine Park is east of Lake Park. 【设计意图：让学生通过听表示方位的句型，判断具体位置，锻炼他们解决具体问题的能力。】

2. Pair work

T: Work in groups and take turns to tell the locations of the following places.

Where is Sunshine Zoo?

Where is Sunny Garden?

Where is Lake Park?

Step 3 Part B

1. Listen and complete T: Listen to Daniel and Simon’s conversation and complete the short passage. 2. Read the conversation 3. Pair work T: Work in pairs and talk about the place you are going. Suppose you are in Big Bridge Middle School now. Beside each place, you can find the means of transportation and the distance from the school. 【设计意图：让学生在真实的生活场景中运用所学知识进行交流。】
