I. Teaching aims and learning objectives By the end of the lesson, students should be able to: 1. know more about animals; 2. get related information from the listening materials;

3. complete a passage using the information from the listening materials; 4. learn to talk about the amazing things.

II. Teaching contents New words and phrases:

snake, camel, ant, little, dry, without, 3-D, chalk, be afraid of, not … any more, hear of, the other

day, at the same time III. Focus of the lesson and predicted area of difficulty 1. Extract information from listening to complete a thank-you letter. 2. Learn some phrases and sentence structures. IV. Teaching procedures A Talking about animals Step 1 Lead-in 1. T asks Ss: “Do you love animals?”，then present the video of animals and ask the questions；

(1) What animals can you see in the video? (2)Do you like dogs? What animals do you like? Why? (3) Are you afraid of …? What animals are you afraid of? Why? 2. Play a guessing game

T: Boys and girls, how much you know about animals? let’s play a guessing game. Please listen to me carefully, and guess what animal it is.

P1: They are quite tall. They eat the leaves on the trees. They have the longest necks. There are only a few bones in their necks. What are they? P2: It lives on the ground, in trees or in water .It sleeps in winter .It has no feet. Most of us are afraid of it. What is it? P3: They live in dry (干燥的) places. They can store (存储)food and water in their bodies. We call them the ship of the desert. (沙漠) What are they? P4: They are smart. They are very small but they can carry heavy things. They are very hard-working. They move their houses before it rains. What are they? Step 2 Presentation 1. Listening T: Mr. Wu and Suzy are also talking about animals. What animals are they talking about? T: Listen again. Put the pictures in the correct order. Write the numbers 1-4 in the boxes.

2. Revision

T: We learned some fun facts about elephants and goldfish. Do you still remember them? What funny things do you know about elephants?

There are no bones in the back of elephants’ feet—only fat. Fish sleep with their eyes open. Do you know anything amazing about goldfish? 3. More fun facts about animals

T: Look at the frog. It is very small, right? Poison dart frogs（箭毒蛙）

are very small, sometimes less than 1.5 centimeters long. Horses sleep standing up. Butterflies taste nectar (花蜜)with their feet. 4. Listening

T: You know some animals are really interesting. But Suzy is afraid of animals. Now Mr. Wu is telling her some interesting things about animals. Listen to their conversation and help Suzy complete her notes. (1) Learn the listening Tips Tips: a. 听之前熟悉题目Read the question before listening；

b. 听的时候注意听关键词Listen to the key words while listening T: For example, after reading part1, I will circle the word “bones”, Ok, please read the questions and circle some key words by yourselves.

(2) Play the tape for Part A2 and ask Ss to listen, preparing to answer questions without reading books. (3)Open the books and play the tape again. Ask Ss to complete the exercises.

(4)Check the answers .

(5) Ask Ss to read the sentences in Part A2.

A giraffe has a very long neck and there are only seven bones in it. A snake lives on the ground, in trees or in water, and it eats little or nothing for months in cold winter.

Camels live in very dry places and can live without water for a long time. Ants can smell things well. Step 3 Practice 1. Finish a thank-you letter T: After hearing something amazing about animals, What does Amy think of animals now ? Suzy is not afraid of animals now. She is writing a thank-you letter to Mr. Wu. Help her finish the letter.

2. Make up a dialogue

T: We have learned a lot about animals, too. Let’s talk about your favorite animal or the animal you are afraid of. Please make up a dialogue to show your ideas.

Step 1 Lead-in T: The world is full of amazing things. I heard of an artist. What can he do? Let’s watch a video.

He can draw 3-d pictures with chalk. Step 2 Presentation 1. Listening (1) Listen and answer T: Suzy’s friends are talking about amazing things in the world. Listen to the tape and answer the question. How many amazing people are they talking about? (2) Listen and choose the right answer

T: Listen again and choose the right answer. Don’t forget the listening tips.

2. Read the dialogue after the tape and fill in the blanks T: Pay attention to their intonation and pronunciations.

Step 3 Practice 1. Useful expressions T: Read the dialogues in groups of four (in different roles) and underline the useful expressions that are very important. T: I think these sentences are useful. If I want to ask the questions about amazing things, they can help me. T: And these useful expressions can help me answer the questions. T: Which sentences can we use to tell others our feelings? 2. Amazing things about things and people

T: Look at the dog. What amazing things do you know about the dog? It can drive a car. Is it interesting? It is interesting that the dog can drive a car…What amazing things do you know? I heard of/read about…How do you feel? That’s cool/…

3. Make up your own conversation 4. Write some notes about amazing things Notes: We live in a wonderful world with a lot of amazing things. It is surprising/amazing/…that…

5. Watch and discuss T: The world is always full of amazing things. I heard of AI. Do you know about it? Let’s watch a video. How do you feel after watching the video? What do you think AI can do for you?

T: We are surprised at AI. It can help us do many things like cooking, looking after babies, playing music and so on. I think, through the study of AI, we can make our life better and better. So let’s study hard and we will learn more amazing things about the world. V. Homework 1. Search for more amazing things on the Internet and share with each other. 2. Tell the amazing things you learnt to your parents. 3. Finish the exercises.
